Sony's PlayStation is turning three years old this coming November 2023. However, some people believe that the Japanese gaming publisher is already gearing up for the release of PS6, its successor.
Several rumors point out that the next-gen console is set to be launched in 2027. While it's too early to conclude its final release date, some Redditors have started debunking this myth with their predictions.
Redditors Debunk PS6's Launch
The launch window for Sony to drop a new console lasts for at least 6 to 8 years in the PlayStation lineup. This means that if this is true, we could see PS6 somewhere between 2028 and 2030.
With this pattern, it's easier to believe that the PS5 will be discontinued in four to five years. But before that, it's important to note that the shipments for PS5 were heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which first took effect in 2020.
According to a report by Spiel Times, because of this incident, the release of the rumored PS6 could likely fall in 2027. It's noteworthy to know that there's a 10-year contract in the current deal which is set to end in 2034.
Previously, the sources discovered that the next-gen PS console won't be available until after the expiration of the contract, which is in 2027.
Of course, this is still a rumor, so it's better to take this with a grain of salt. What's more, if Sony ends its contract with Activision, we might potentially miss the most anticipated titles on the platform, such as "Call of Duty" and "Battlefield."

Potential Specs For PS6
Before the rumors about PlayStation 6 surfaced online, some people debated about the possible arrival of the PS5 Pro in June 2023.
According to Tech Times, if Sony wants to retain a huge number of players on PlayStation, it should ensure reasonable and right pricing for the console.
Going back to PS6, Gizchina reports that PS5 may have a shorter lifespan because of the former. As much as we want to see a new console, its entry into the gaming market remains unclear at the moment, given the reliability of the rumors.
Speaking of this rumored console, here are the possible specifications we might see on this when it becomes available to the buyers.
- 16-core Photonic Processor
- 12 Cores Arm CPU
- 32-48 GB RAM
- 100 teraflops with RTX 4090 or Higher
- 120 FPS 4k or 8K
These specs reportedly came from a trusted source Mark Cerny who is the genius behind the hardware design of PlayStation 5.
If what WorryWartGamer is saying is legit, then Cerny will be the one to continue engineering the design for the most awaited PS6.
