AI Chipmaker Hailo Launches New Processor Designed for Intelligent Cameras

Hailo has crafted new family of powerful SoCs that will power up AI analytics-capable cameras.

Israeli chipmaker Hailo has finally launched Hailo-15H, M and L processors which are designed to go well with AI cameras.

As described on the website, the new family of processors make use of field proven AI inferencing capabilities paired with advanced computer vision engines.

These chips are expected to deliver image processing quality to a higher level for edge devices.

According to Hailo CEO Orr Danon, making AI becomes more "scalable and affordable" with the help of the new family of Hailo-15 processors.

"With this launch, we are leveraging our leadership in edge solutions, which are already deployed by hundreds of customers worldwide; the maturity of our AI technology; and our comprehensive software suite, to enable high performance AI in a camera form-factor," Danon said in a report by TechCrunch on Wednesday, March 8.

The Tel Aviv-based firm acknowledges the fact that the Hailo processors are more powerful than their predecessors.

The SoCs reportedly boast 7 TOPS (tera operations per second) to 20 TOPS. This alone will make you think that they are actually five times faster compared to the standard chips.

On top of that, an object detection model is possible to run at 1280x1280 resolution in real time thanks to the new Hailo-15H lineup.

Overall, the processors are on top when it comes to image processing since they can handle a video input of up to 4k60.

Advanced Processing Enhancements at the Camera Edge

The Hailo-15 AI chips are designed to transform the intelligent cameras into more enhanced cameras with "vision-based transformers." With that being said, the cameras now acquire real-time object detection.

Furthermore, these SoCs are designed not just for enhancing the quality of videos. The Hailo-15 lineup is also intended to improve HDR imaging, video stabilization, and the low-light setting of footage.

Hailo-Equipped Cameras Bring AI Technology

According to the company, using Hailo-15 to enhance the image processing of cameras does not only end up here. It's so useful that it can "offload cloud analytics to trim down excessive processing and bandwidth of videos.

That's not the only thing that users can achieve in using the new AI processors. Data anonymization and privacy at the edge are also prioritized by the company upon the release of these SoCs.

The advanced AI analytics from the cameras will also keep people safe when crossing a street. Organizations can take advantage of this smart technology at a lower ownership cost.
