Elon Musk vs. Halli Thorleifsson Twitter: Did the CEO Fire Him Because of Disability?

Halli is only asking why he was laid off but Musk sure had lots of questions.

Elon Musk caught himself in another controversy for another round of layoffs on Twitter, and this time, it is with a prolific employee known as Halli Thorleifsson, which recently asked about why he was fired.

There were no clear answers from Musk, and there are many that alleged that Musk fired him because of his disability.

It all began with a simple tweet from Ueno founder, Halli Thorleifsson, which asked about his employment status from the tech CEO, stating that he was locked out of access to his work nine days ago. The employee claimed that he sent multiple e-mails addressed to Musk and human resources but did not receive any replies.

This simple question turned into a massive thread of Mr. Tweet asking the former employee about what was his work at the company.

Thorleifsson answered the question thoroughly, but there were follow-up questions from the CEO about what was indeed his line of work or responsibilities in the platform.

Chief Tweet also asked him if he is a "people person," which included a YouTube video link from a pop culture reference.

The thread ended, and there were no confirmations from the tech CEO about why he was laid off, or if he was terminated from his post, with Thorleifsson saying that he understands if he was part of that batch.

Did Elon Musk Mock, Fire Him Because of his Disability?

The former Twitter employee also claimed that he already got confirmation from HR of the company that he was indeed fired.

In a separate discussion, Elon Musk said that he was laid off because Thorleifsson did no actual work for months now, despite claiming his efforts when he was still an employee. This tweet also mentioned his disability.

Musk also claimed that he was evaluated for his work done for Twitter, but he formerly told HR that he could not accomplish it because of his disclosed challenges, but also claimed that he was surprised to see Thorleifsson "typing up a storm" on Twitter.

Twitter 2.0's Prolific Layoffs Under Musk

When entering a new era of a company, especially after an acquisition by other companies or by new leaders, there are bound layoffs for different employees as there would be restructuring from within. While it was unclear how much Musk will lay off on Twitter, there were a lot of terminations that took place from November 2022 until now.

At first, it was said to be based on their employees' tweets, particularly those who have badmouthed Musk individually, and during his acquisition era where he fought the company.

Twitter employees thought that it already ended, and they would be safe from finding new jobs and continuing what they do on the platform.

However, that was not the last of it, and even occurred in other offices. This also includes top executives and known personalities on the platform, not to mention those who were in charge of ethics and content moderation.

Now, their Twitter thread comes to a halt, and Thorleifsson earlier confirmed that he was indeed laid off from the company, but this also comes as an awakening about his disability, with Musk also mocking the work he did on the platform.
