Twitter has laid off at least another 50 employees after Chief Tweet Elon Musk said that the company was done with cutting jobs. The cuts included the head of Twitter Blue Esther Crawford and the whole product team, who were all laid off this weekend.
Laying Off Another Set of Employees
Chief Tweet Elon Musk has conducted another layoff, affecting 50 employees. According to Engadget's report, Twitter laid off employees on Saturday evening, which includes a senior executive and its team.
Director of Product Management Esther Crawford was in charge of Twitter Blue, the platform's subscription service. She was considered one of the company's loyalists during Musk's term and was one of the recognizable faces at "Twitter 2.0."
Apart from Twitter Blue, Crawford also led an organization primarily focused on Twitter's 0-1 bets, which includes teams from Creators, Spaces, Communities, Crypto, and DMs. She notably tweeted last November that sometimes you will have to #SleepWhereYourWork in order to meet deadlines.
Crawford was also eyeing a bigger role in the company, before she was laid off. During the mass layoffs last November, she wrote on Slack that these cuts were going to be required in order for the company to survive, even with or without a new owner.

TechCrunch reported that employees received emails at 2:00 AM on Saturday. The post includes detail on the extent of the layoffs, which are 50% in human relations, 60% in sales and marketing, 35% in engineering, 40% in finance, and 80% in project management. In February 17, it was also reported that several ad sales staff were also laid off.
Another prominent employee was affected by the latest cuts. Revue founder Martijn de Kuijper stated that he was among those who had lost their job. He said, "Waking up to find I've been locked out of my email. Looks like I'm let go." Revue is a newsletter platform acquired by Twitter last 2021.
Possible Reasons
Along with Crawford and Kuijper, the company laid off the remaining product and engineering team this weekend. The Verge's Alex Heath stated that these layoffs lead to speculation that Musk may be about to install a new regime for the company.
An ex-manager of the company stated to him that it is hard for the Chief Tweet to keep the lights on with the people who are still left. In one of his recent interviews, Musk said that he needs to stabilize the organization and make sure that the company is in a financially healthy place.
Once he cleared all of these, it would be a good time to find a replacement for him as the company's chief executive officer. This latest round of layoffs become the fourth one since Musk took over the company last November.
