Honda is set to unveil its newest autonomous robot that is designed to lighten a load of construction-related works in the future.
The Japanese automobile firm confirms that it will reveal more information about the third-gen Autonomous Work Vehicle (AWV) for the upcoming CONEXPO-CON/ACG 2023 in Las Vegas from March 14 to 18.
Honda Autonomous Work Vehicle
Just like other car makers, Honda is known for producing various models of vehicles including cars, minivans, trucks, and motorcycles. However, the company is exploring more options to cater to the needs of other industries outside the auto industry.
According to a report by Engadget, Honda will soon reveal a new autonomous robot designed to transport goods on construction worksites with ease.
This particular vehicle is expected to be an all-around helper for operators and workers in the field. As such, it can be used without any help from humans.
AWV is basically an improved version of ATV which was first introduced back in CES 2019. This autonomous machine resembles an electric wagon which is far from its previous appearance.
The current AWV offers a more revamped avoid function. It also comes with a larger battery that can last for up to 10 hours of continuous usage.
Additionally, it has a higher capacity compared to the second-gen version since it can load up to 2,000 pounds of materials. Other than that, it features a pair of pallets that offers bigger bed size. For easier loading of goods and supplies, its lower bed will do its job.

Honda's Autonomous Robot Can Operate in Various Terrains
Whether it's a smooth or rough surface, Honda says that the autonomous vehicle can operate even on the most extreme terrains including construction sites.
The company equips it with sensors to make it more adaptive to the changing environment. Aside from the autonomous operation, this vehicle can also be controlled using a remote control.
Furthermore, Honda adds more advanced technologies to the vehicle by including a next-gen camera, GPS, LiDAR, and radar systems. Cloud connectivity is also working here.
Since labor shortages are all over different industries, Honda wants to solve this problem by unveiling this AWV for the companies who are struggling with the lack of manpower.
According to the car manufacturer, this robot will be an efficient tool for worksite transport.
More details about the AWV version 3.0 will be unveiled when March 14 comes. The construction trade show will witness the full capability of the autonomous robot designed for construction operations.
"As we continue to advance the Honda AWV platform, we want to meet with potential business partners and companies at CONEXPO that are interested in field testing the vehicle at their worksite," American Honda Motor Co. Inc. systems engineering manager Jason VanBuren said in a report by Automotive World.
Honda Wants to Commercialize AWV
At the moment, Honda is searching for a potential partner that will partake in the testing of AWV. As part of its plans to commercialize this product, the company looks forward to improving the following areas:
- Product Distribution
- Product support/after-market sales
- Software and attachment development
