ConcernedApe, the developer of the wildly popular farming simulator game "Stardew Valley," is currently working on a new RPG called "Haunted Chocolatier," and fans are already excited.
As opposed to tending a large farm on Stardew Valley, this game will allow the players to take on the role of a chocolatier living in a haunted castle (hence the name). In the game, they will gather rare ingredients, make delicious chocolates, and sell them in a chocolate shop! Here's more of what we know.
Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) first revealed the brand-new game in 2021. The announcement of the new game went into detail, including its own gameplay trailer and blog post (several early snapshots have also been posted).
Haunted Chocolatier: In The Know
While Haunted Chocolatier is still in development, ConcernedApe has revealed some details (See FAQ page).
Just like how he did it with "Stardew Valley," ConcernedApe is the sole developer, and there are no plans to involve anyone else now.
While he has not yet set a release date, he does intend to make the game available on multiple platforms, albeit currently focusing on PC at its early stages.
TechRadar tells us that Haunted Chocolatier is anticipated to be supported on Steam Deck, the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, as it went with ConcernedApe's first hit game. There could also be some delays on the way!
What to Expect
ConcernedApe stated in one FAQ that Haunted Chocolatier is similar to Stardew Valley in that it is a "town game" in which players move to a new town and tinker with a new way of life.
On the other hand, the gameplay and theme of Haunted Chocolatier are pretty different. The game is more of an action RPG than Stardew Valley, with players interacting with townspeople and accomplishing their objectives in new and exciting ways.
Now, about in-game relationships: Barone said in an interview with VGKami that Haunted Chocolatier is bringing back romantic relationships. Still, he gave no further details about heart mechanics, giftings, etc.
The only trailer suggests that the next game will retain most game mechanics, such as swinging tools and aiming (this time with an arrow rather than a slingshot). Its texture also remains Stardew-esque, giving the impression that it is one elaborate mod. Even so, players are excited about a new adventure!
The game will also be single-player only, with no plans for multiplayer. But it could come in a future update, just like Barone did in Stardew Valley version 1.3.
Haunted Chocolatier Coming Soon
As for whether Haunted Chocolatier takes place in the world of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe isn't ready to reveal anything just yet. Although, he is not shy about dropping some hints on Twitter occasionally.
While much remains unknown about Haunted Chocolatier, it is clear that fans of Stardew Valley and simulation games, in general, have a lot to look forward to.
Haunted Chocolatier, with its engaging setting and gameplay mechanics, has the potential to become the next big RPG sensation from the creator of Stardew Valley.
