The new Apple in-house 5G modem is expected to replace the ones offered by Qualcomm for iPhones.
Even Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm's CEO, believes that the iPhone maker will no longer need their 5G modems soon.
In 2019, Apple signed a six-year license agreement with Qualcomm for their chipset supplies. This deal can be extended for two more years if Apple wants to, meaning that its license agreement with Qualcomm could last until 2027.
However, it seems like Apple will no longer be needing Qualcomm's chipset soon.
New Apple In-House 5G Modems to Arrive
According to PC Mag's latest report, Amon shared the possible Qualcomm modem replacement at the Mobile World Congress.

"We're making no plans for 2024, my planning assumption is we're not providing [Apple] a modem in '24, but it's their decision to make," said the Qualcomm CEO.
Amon's surprising statements align with the recent speculations about Apple's plan of using its own in-house modems.
Some rumors even claimed that the giant gadget maker could start integrating its own modems into the new iPhone SE 4, which is expected to be released in 2024.
Even Ming-Chi Kuo shared his predictions about iPhone SE 4 being the first iOS smartphone to adopt Apple's in-house 5G baseband chip.
Rumors About Apple's In-House Modem
Apple hasn't shared any official statement regarding its rumored 5G in-house modem.
But, many individuals who are familiar with the tech giant's works are able to share many predictions that are likely to happen.
While speculations claimed that the new Apple in-house modem would have 5G connectivity, Kuo said that it will only support sub-6 5G.
Since this is the case, it is still unclear if iPhone 16 series would also have the new Apple in-house chipset.
If Kuo's prediction about iPhone SE 4 happens, there's a chance that the new in-house modem would also be integrated into the new iPad and Apple Watch next, as reported by CNET.
In other news, the new iPhone 16 Pro's under-display Face ID feature is allegedly on track.
We also reported that the Apple Watch battery life could get better in the next upgrades.
