OpenAI's ChatGPT API for Developers is Now Available

ChatGPT has taken the world by storm since it launched last year. Tech Crunch notes that it sure is a massive hit with roughly 100 million monthly active users as of December 2022.

And this time, as per a recent report by Engadget, the new ChatGPT API is now up for grabs for app developers.

So if you are an app developer planning to add an AI-powered functionality, the new API might be what you are looking for.

OpenAI confirms that the new ChatGPT API uses the similar AI model found on the popular AI chatbot, known as the "gpt-3.5-turbo." With that, it lets developers include the same version to the apps, websites, or other platforms they are working on.

Snap My AI: Powered by ChatGPT API

Engadget notes in its report that one of the first apps to use the ChatGPT API is none other than the parent firm of Snapchat.

The all-new Snap My AI chatbot initially rolls out to the paying subscribers of SnapChat Plus, according to a report by The Verge. The new AI feature will be available to the tune of $3.99 per month, alongside other exclusive features on the platform.

Eventually, Snap plans to release the My AI bot to the rest of Snapchat users. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel says "the big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, [we are] going to talk to AI every day."

CNN notes in its story that platforms like Instacart and tutor service Quizlet have also begun using the ChatGPT API, besides Snap.

The unprecedented popularity of ChatGPT is evident as early adopters like Microsoft Bing gained significant traction. With that, other platforms are now following suit.

While tech giants like Google are working to rival the OpenAI-powered chatbot, other smaller platforms are looking to spice up their services using the popular AI tool. And this is where the API for developers comes in, allowing app makers to include ChatGPT in their future projects.
