Users will no longer have to CmdF or Ctrl-F on a post page as Reddit announced today that users can now search comments within a post. This feature lets users quickly find the information they are looking for very rapidly.
Comment Search Function
Reddit officially announced a new feature that lets users search comments within a single post without expanding them. Engadget said the new feature is now live on desktops, iOS, and Android. This feature will bring up results without extra taps or clicks.
Reddit's one of site mods u/anon-axolotl wrote in an announcement, "No more long scrolling sessions - quickly get to the parts of the conversation you're looking for and jump in where you want." Based on the thread, Redditors responded positively to this new update.
Previously, users needed to utilize the Ctrl-F for Windows and Cmd-F on Mac to search in a browser and to expand any collapsed comments before it would show results. While the rolled-out feature allowed users to search content on comments last year, it would only yield results from the original posts and topics within a community.
Gizmodo reported that this feature shows different versions on all three platforms. For desktop, the comment search bar appears next to the Sort By drop-down feature below the add a comment button. For mobile, users can access the comment search by navigating a post and clicking the magnifying glass icon in the blue bar.
Other Updates
Aside from the comment search function, TechCrunch reported that Reddit updated its subreddit search algorithm to deliver a larger number of more relevant subreddits for most searches. This will also be convenient for users as the platform improved the autocomplete function when searching for communities without having to type the exact name.
Browsing through video search results is now also easier for users, as they can easily swipe up and down to go between video results on mobile apps. These updates might be basic to some, but it brings convenience to other, which is the platform's goal as they release new updates.
Recently, Reddit also rolled out a new community muting feature that gives users more control over what they do and doesn't want to see on the platform. Through this feature, users can mute an entire community, and posts will be removed from your notifications, home feed, and popular feed.
This will also allow each user to mute up to 1,000 subreddits. But as per the company, muting a certain community will not ban users from visiting it. In short, they can still interact with every post on the platform.
