Reddit will soon let users to mute specific content they don't want to see on their feed. According to TechCrunch, the new "community muting" feature will give more control to each Redditors who wants to limit the post visibility on the platform.
Initially, the front face of the internet will launch it first in the mobile platform in the coming weeks. Soon enough, the feature is expected to be available for desktop users.
Muting Every Subreddit You Don't Want to See
Whenever you see a hateful post or a thread, there's only one thing to keep it away from your mind. By ignoring the content, it should solve your problem.
However, some posts keep on reappearing and ignoring them alone won't work easily. That's why Reddit introduces a new feature that will allow you to mute a whole community.
In doing so, you won't receive any notifications about the community's posts and announcements. Still, it's a great way to declutter your messy Home Feed if you want peace of mind.
According to Reddit, the feature will allow each user to mute up to 1,000 subreddits. The company says that muting a particular community won't bar you from visiting it.
In short, you can still interact with every post on the platform: from commenting to posting your sentiments online. If you think that it's not the best option, you are free to unmute a subreddit in the Settings. You can also customize how you receive notifications from the communities.
Reddit Plans to Bring the Feature to Discover and All Pages
In another report by Ars Technica on Friday, Nov. 11, Reddit intends to bring the muting feature to other feeds including "Discover" and "All" pages.
With the imminent release of the feature for desktop and web users, Reddit says that it's the start of giving more control to the users when it comes to content visibility.
Muting a community is easy and you have three options to do that. The first one is by going to the Settings. The second option is by heading to the top right corner of the community page and clicking the three-dots menu. The third and last way is by tapping the three-dots menu located on the top-right portion of the Home feeds.
Reddit points out that the muting feature won't be a mere replacement if you intend to report malicious content on the platform. As such, there's a separate policy for reporting content which sparks hate, abuse, and other sensitive topics.
Back in April, Tech Times reported that Reddit had finally made comments searchable. It's been a long time since fans requested this to arrive on the platform. After 17 years, it was finally approved for launch.
