Ducati Will Still Not Build Electric Motorcycles For Consumers, Blames It On Battery Tech

Ducati is still not ready to produce consumer electric motorcycles.

Ducati isn't manufacturing electric motorcycles for consumers just yet due to the state of battery technology today, as reported by Electrek.

Even though Ducati is the sole supplier of electric racing motorcycles for the FIM Motor electric motorcycles racing series, they are not ready to manufacture electric motorcycles for the public.

It Will Take More Years for Ducati

According to Bloomberg, Ducati will take some years because they have a consumer electric motorcycle because the battery technology is still isn't there. It is known that Ducati has been complaining that battery tech prevents them from producing electric models for riders.

The company also stated that synthetic fuels are a more likely alternative to reduce emissions instead of exploring EVs.

Lithium-ion batteries are not advanced enough for the company to deliver sufficient stored energy and performance, and it doesn't seem it will match the rest of the industry.

Challenges in Battery Technology

Battery technology is one of the biggest challenges that Ducati faces in making electric motorcycles. The batteries need to store a large amount of energy, deliver enough power for acceleration, and be lightweight enough to provide a good riding experience.

Battery weight is a particularly challenging problem for Ducati since the company is known for its sporty and powerful motorcycles. Current electric motorcycle batteries are too heavy to provide the same level of performance that Ducati bikes are known for.

The company is also facing challenges with battery chemistry. Current lithium-ion batteries are not able to store enough energy for Ducati's needs, and the company is looking at alternative chemistries, such as solid-state batteries.

Electric Motorcycles Today

At present, electric motorcycles are becoming more popular in the market. Companies such as Zero Motorcycles, Energica Motor Company, and Lightning Motorcycles are leading the charge. These companies produce electric motorcycles capable of providing a high level of performance, range, and torque. Furthermore, electric motorcycles are becoming increasingly more affordable and easier to maintain, making them a viable option for many riders.

In addition, electric motorcycles are becoming more environmentally friendly with the development of advanced battery technology. This technology is allowing electric motorcycles to have improved range and performance. The development of charging infrastructure allows riders to charge their electric motorcycles more conveniently.

It appears that Ducati will take some time before they can produce electric motorcycles. While lithium-ion batteries are not advanced enough to provide the performance and range that the company needs, synthetic fuels may be a more viable alternative in the short term.

Meanwhile, electric motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular in the market and more affordable and environmentally friendly with the development of advanced battery technology and charging infrastructure.
