Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is likely to be thinner than the current Android foldable offering of the South Korean tech giant, the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
A new report suggests that the renowned phone maker is planning to upgrade the hinge design of its next-generation foldable, which is set to debut this 2023, along with the all-new Galaxy Z Flip 5.
With this, we might finally see a thinner version of the Galaxy Z Fold.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Getting Thinner?
As per a news story by Android Police, Samsung has been releasing its Galaxy Fold devices with a similar hinge, which fails to let two flexible AMOLED displays stick together like a sandwich. Instead, the hinge of these foldable leaves a gap between the two screens.
And as such, in the past four years, wherein Samsung has already introduced four Galaxy Fold phones, these devices remained somewhat thick.
However, this time around, the South Korean giant is likely to start changing things, making its Galaxy Z Fold offering for this year flatter than ever.
A new leak by a well-known leaker, who goes by the name Ice Universe, gives us a glimpse into how Samsung plans to offer us a thinner foldable phone.
Ice Universe disclosed in its Weibo post that the phone maker is looking to ditch the huge gap when the device folds in half.
And here is how Samsung plans to do it.
New Water Drop Hinge?
The Samsung leaker says that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is likely getting a new "water drop structure hinge," which should get rid of the "gap after folding."
In turn, Ice Universe predicts that the new hinge structure that Samsung might introduce once it debuts its new Galaxy Fold is going to make the foldable phone a lot thinner.
After folding, the leaker notes that it might as well be around "13.x mm" thin. And all that is possible through a huge upgrade in the hinge of the upcoming Android phone.

No More Chinese Display Panels
Meanwhile, Sam Mobile reports that early rumors suggest that Samsung is planning to purchase foldable display panels from Chinese tech makers.
However, a source close to the matter says otherwise. The renowned phone maker is likely to produce its own display panels for the all-new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
