YouTube Music to Offer Podcasts like Spotify, But Do You Need a Subscription?

YouTube Music is taking a page from Spotify with its current offer.

There is a new audio experience coming to YouTube Music, and it is now featuring another variety of content on its platform in the form of Podcasts. The Google-owned service is now similar to what Spotify has to offer, centering on music and podcasts coming together under one platform for the public's consumption of their streaming capabilities.

YouTube's main platform already hosts podcasts and various episodes from different content creators in video form, with the company tapping its potential for its upcoming release to YouTube Music.

Engadget reported that YouTube Music is now "moving" into podcasts in its latest development for the app.

According to a YouTube spokesperson, the platform would bring both audio and video-first podcasts in the United States for more to access and discover this media type.

The spokesperson also claimed that it will also roll out to other regions in the future.

This does not mean that the main YouTube platform would lose its Podcast content, as it will only bring the massive library available on its streams to different places people want to listen to, like YouTube Music, says the spokesperson.

YouTube revealed this information to the world last Thursday, at the Hot Pod Summit held in New York. According to Alban Brooke who attended the summit, YouTube confirmed this via its new podcasts chief, Kai Chuk.

Will You Need a Subscription for It?

TechCrunch reported that background listening to podcasts via YouTube will be available for free to all users, like what people experience on the main platform. However, it will feature ads from time to time, depending on their duration.

Still, this means that there would be a dedicated badge or platform for it via YouTube's offers.

Moreover, YouTube would soon offer creator tools via the YouTube Studio, as well as future integration of podcasts to YouTube's RSS Feeds.

YouTube Music remains one of the top destinations for a music streaming application that centers on its expansive content already available on the main platform of the company.

Singers and artists may bring over their content from YouTube for audio-only streaming over at YouTube Music, now improved with its Material You buttons on Android and iOS.

Like the many music streaming platforms in the world, YouTube Music offers different features for users to enjoy their audio needs and wants, from the many artists making their content available online.

However, available features on other streaming platforms are only coming to YouTube Music, especially with its earlier testing of the live lyrics on the Casting UI.

YouTube Music will soon allow users to enjoy podcasts on the app, one that would deliver a new audio experience for their needs and enjoyment. Soon, it will also be available via the RSS feeds, but for now, it remains under development by the company, working on different experiences for the public, in free and subscription tiers.
