Youtube Music introduced a redesigned radio feature that provides users more freedom and control over their listening experience. Compared to other streaming services, YouTube Music's radio feature offers a lot of flexibility in this new update.
Custom Radio Station
A new radio experience has been introduced by YouTube Music, as the company rolls out an improved radio feature that allows customers to creator their own stations. According to a report from TechCrunch, the new update also brings new and improved features.
YouTube stated in an email, "The result is giving users a lot more control over their music listening experiences, and allowing them to slice their music in many ways currently unavailable to them, on YouTube Music or really any music service."
This feature includes the ability to pick up to 30 artists when creating a radio station. Users can also choose how frequently these artists appear by applying filters that change the mood of the station, like downbeat, chill, and more.
Users can now adjust the parameters they set after creating a station. By tapping the tune option that appears at the bottom of the app, you can now play the customized stations while listing to the new playlist. Stations can also be revisited at any moment.
Two options will be given to choosing from; an option to only include the selected artist or including content from a broader set of similar artists. The additional customization gives YouTube Music a step ahead of other streaming services as it offers more flexibility.
"With this new radio functionality, we're flipping that model on its head, empowering users to create their own radios from the ground up, by combining key music building blocks such as artists and common music descriptors," YouTube noted.
Rolling Out
While some users already have this feature, Google stated it may take some time for others before they see the feature on the application. But Engadget reported that once the feature is available on the device, users will see a prompt in the interface that says "Create a Radio."
This new feature may look promising to some but this will not be enough to convince consumers to switch to YouTube Music from other music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.
Google encouraged their current subscribers who have the access to this feature to use it more frequently. Free trial subscriptions are also available for users who want to try this feature, and it may convert them to become YouTube Music users.
Last November, YouTube reported that it surpassed 80 million subscribers globally for both YouTube Music and YouTube Premium. This 30 million subscribers increase from 2021 puts the company on track to become one of the top music streaming services.
