Apple TV is streaming the Major League Soccer (MLS) games in 1080p, as the new season kicks off on February 25.
It looks like the iPhone maker is taking the same route it did with the Major League Baseball games, which also stream in 1080p resolution.
Apple TV Streams MLS Games in 1080p
While Apple has confirmed that it will be streaming the games of this season via its MLS Season Pass, we have yet to confirm streaming and audio quality until now.
As per a report by Engadget, Apple TV plans to stream all the MLS games in 1080p resolution, similar to the MLB games in 2022.
The news outlet notes that the streaming resolution for the upcoming season is actually an improvement, it is not previously available in 1080p resolution.
However, if you were expecting to catch the soccer matches in stunning 4K resolution this year, you are out of luck. Apple TV users are stuck in 1080p for all MLS games.
But despite the lack of a 4K option, the games are getting better visuals this year. Engadget notes in its report that the league plans to add more cameras in the field for an improved viewing experience.
So even if you have a 4K TV at home, you would still have to settle with 1080p. Yet, you might appreciate some improvements in the overall visuals regardless of their resolution.
According to The Verge, many sports fans are now expecting sporting games to be streamed in higher resolution as this has been the trend for some events. For instance, the Super Bowl this year already supported 4K. But on the other hand, MLS games have yet to make the shift.
5.1 Surround Sound is Coming to MLS Games
Besides the streaming quality, the league confirmed the audio quality of its games on Apple TV. All matches in this season will feature a more immersive experience thanks to its Dolby 5.1 audio support.
It should bring a surround sound experience, making it seem like you are watching it live. Well, sort of.
How to Get MLS Season Pass on Apple TV
The MLS Season Pass is available on the Apple TV app. So you may use Android TVs or Apple TV devices. But that is not all. iPhones, iPad, and Mac users could also get their hands on it.
