The rules of Wheel of Fortune are really simple. You spin the wheel, guess a letter, and when you think you know the puzzle, you tell Pat Sajak you would like to solve and win a whole bunch of money.
Now there are times constants get nervous, guessing wrong or mispronouncing the puzzle—all which will lead to some pretty funny trolling from Sajak. But in this instance, one contestant seemingly forgot how to play, losing his chance at winning $9,000 during the game's final spin.
The board read, "THE P_ _NTED DESERT," and each constant would have the opportunity to guess a letter and then solve the puzzle until the time ran out and the next contestant would have a chance to win the money.
The constant before guessed the letter "P," and proceeded to guess "The Pointed Desert." It was wrong. So now it was James Trahan's turn.
For some odd reason, he guessed "The Pointed Desert," the same wrong answer. Sajak reminds him that this is incorrect, but that he still had time to guess again. But Trahan froze in confusion, slowing processing the fact that he still had more time. "I'd like to solve the puzzle," he said, even though this was unnecessary.
In a race against the clock, all Trahan could do was make the next best guess. So, he guessed "The Pointed Dessert" again.
"It's not 'The Pointed Desert,' no matter how many times you say it," Sajak said.
The first contestant was able to correctly solve, "The Painted Desert," but Trahan did go home with $1,000. We wonder what it is about Wheel Of Fortune that makes so many contestants loose their common sense.
