With the new European Union (EU) law in place, all mobile devices must have just one charging system, and the interface of choice is USB Type-C. This shouldn't be much of an issue for most brands since they already use this interface. However, Apple is not so lucky.
Potential Solutions for Apple's Transition to USB Type-C
The EU law does not require them to change from their Lightning port to the USB Type-C port; this could be potentially good news for the company. Apple has several potential options that it can consider, such as wireless charging, a move that other brands like Samsung have already implemented with their flagship smartphones.
According to the story by Giz China, there are rumors that the upcoming generation of iPhones may not be capable of using just any USB Type-C cables. Lastly, an engineering solution has been found to 'convert' the Lightning interface of an iPhone to a USB Type-C.
This implies that instead of a neat replacement, the engineer could 'add' the USB Type-C interface to the older Lightning port. It remains to be seen what decision will later be taken by the phone giant.
A DIY Project to Add a USB Type-C Port to an iPhone 12 mini
The USB Type-C port has become the de facto choice for many phone makers, so it's no surprise that one tech-savvy YouTuber has figured out a way to add one to the latest iPhone. Hyphaistos3672 successfully added a USB Type-C port to an iPhone 12 mini, creating a dual-port device with both a Lightning and USB Type-C port.
To make this happen, the engineer had to tear down the device and create a hole in the bottom to install the port. Linking to the existing hardware of the mobile phone, the USB Type-C port is fully functional and able to connect the device to iTunes. A video can be spotted on Weibo showing the smartphone with two ports.
However, this DIY project is not an official Apple creation, so the Cupertino-based company may never use the dual port strategy. Many netizens have commented on how this dual-interface design provides an advantage over single-port phones.

Advantages of Dual-Port Design For iPhone Models
As the iPhone 7 expunged with the headphone jack, adding a second port would allow users to charge their device and use wired headphones simultaneously. As the USB Type-C port is becoming the industry standard, more and more phone makers are choosing to include them on their devices.
Despite how strange the iPhone with two interfaces looks to some people, there are also some advantages to this dual-port design. One of them is the possibility of using headphones and charging the phone simultaneously, as was the case before the iPhone 7 expunged the headphone jack.
Although this solution isn't coming from Apple officially, it still represents one idea Apple can use to make the adjustment necessary to answer the requirements of the new EU law. Earlier, XDA-Developers reported that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro would have different USB-C ports.
