Canceling TFL Project
A game based on the popular franchises Apex Legends and Titanfall is supposed to launch soon. But according to a report from Bloomberg, Titanfall Legends Project was canceled by Electronic Arts as the gaming industry has evolved, which is far from their expectations.
About 50 employees that are initially part of this project will be affected by the cancelation, and it was reported that EA would try to find positions for these people. Unfortunately, anyone who cannot be placed in new positions in the company will be given severance packages and eventually laid off.
Dexerto reported that aside from the cancelation, EA has been delaying releases of games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The company is also planning to release a Titanfall 3 morphed into Apex Legends.
Despite killing this project early in its development, this is still not a great time for Apex and Titanfall fans. Especially since Electronic Arts have been hinting to release it several times. However, the game had not been advertised by the company.
Titanfall Legends' last solo release was in 2016, which initially sold poorly. But IGN reported that the game subsequently gained a following due to its single-player shooter design.
This was succeeded by the release of Apex Legends in 2019, a battle royale multiplayer title, which became one of EA's most successful games released with $2 billion in earnings.
Shutting Down Apex Legends Mobile
Aside from canceling the TFL project, EA also announced the shutdown of two well-known games after giving a disappointing outlook for revenue in the current quarter.
Electronic Arts confirmed that Apex Legends Mobile will be shutting down on May 1st this year, just eight months after its launch. While the game had a strong start, Respawn Entertainment explained that the content for it had begun to fall short of the studio's criteria for quality and quantity.
Kotaku reported that the game's real money in-game store will also be removed, along with Apex Legends Mobile's removal from digital stores. Users can fully play the game for the next 90 days. This will affect a couple of studios, including Tencent and Lightspeed who worked on this game.
Although this announcement was disappointing to some of the fans, EA and Respawn believe that this decision will benefit the developers, the company, and the fans. They will entertain questions from fans to assure them that they are willing to assist them before the game's official shutdown.
"Our gratitude to our players and teams joining us on Apex Legends Mobile, even if for a short while, is unending," the statement added.
In other news, EA also announced the shutdown of Battlefield Mobile. This game was developed by Industrial Toys.
