Gearbox Software's "Homeward Remastered Collection" - a bundled remake of the late 1990s popular space-strategy games Homeworld and Homeworld 2 - is set to release on Feb. 25.
On Sunday, Jan. 25, Gearbox Software made the announcement pertaining to the release of the real-time game collection at the PAX South convention.
With the remastered version coming out over a decade after the original version's release, gamers can revel in building an armada and controlling their fleet as they snake their way through over 30 single-player missions.
"Crafted with the assistance and guidance of the original creators as well as the help of a passionate fan community, Homeworld Remastered Collection introduces Relic's acclaimed space strategy games Homeworld and Homeworld 2 to modern players and operating systems using modern advances in graphics rendering technology," notes the Homeworld Remastered website.
The Homeworld Remastered Collection will also make use of new graphic effects, high-resolution models and textures, as well as offer support for 4K, HD and UHD resolutions. The recreation has been taken care of by the original video and audio artists for Homeworld.
What is great about the collection is that it not only includes the remodeled versions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2, but the bundle also includes the original classic versions of the two games. In this way, not only can gamers revel in the original versions, but are able to compare the improvements made in the remastered version.
Another cool feature Gearbox is bringing gamers' way is the launch of a online multiplayer mode dubbed Homeworld Remastered Steam Multiplayer Beta. This service will combine the aspects of both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 into a single unified online mode.
This functionality, however, will still be in the beta phase even though it launches along with the Homeworld Remastered Collection in February.
Come Feb. 25, you can buy the Homeworld Remastered Collection for $34.99. Alternately, fans can pre-order the game here on Steam's store and avail a 15 percent discount.
