One of the most recent controversies with Twitter is banning third-party apps' access to its platform, with some experiences no longer accessible for users despite a long time of its use. The company recently justified why it blocked these apps on the platform, citing that they broke the company's API rules, and its enforcement is the reason for some apps not working.
However, when asked directly as to what is the exact rule that these online services broke, Twitter stood in silence and did not address this simple question from a known YouTuber.
Twitter Justifies Third-Party Apps Ban
The Twitter Devs account tweeted a statement regarding the ongoing controversy of the third-party apps ban on the platform. It justified its actions by saying that these apps broke its API rules, and said that for those who remain inaccessible on Twitter, it only means that they are in violation of said rules that the company has long enforced.
The verified developers' account did not specify which rules were violated by these third-party apps that operate on Twitter's platform.
This led to more questions from its social media users, alongside a prolific tech influencer on YouTube, Marques Brownlee, who asked which rules were violated.
The YouTuber did not get any response from Twitter Devs, or other accounts of the company.
Breaking an Unknown Rule
Of course, this sparks another controversy in the platform, as the famous and massively-used third-party apps do not know which rule they broke, from Twitter's API documentation. It remains an unanswered question, a mystery, but something which Twitter users want an answer to, as these apps are essential for a handful of users on the platform.
Twitter's Management
It was only last week since Twitter made third-party applications inaccessible on the platform, and this is despite many people depending on these features for their daily consumption and work on the platform. According to reports, Twitter intentionally blocked off platforms like Tweetbot and Echofon, alongside other services present on social media.
Additionally, this change in management, with Elon Musk now serving as its head, sees different issues which the company is not addressing well, starting off with the many changes in the company. Moreover, there was a round of new layoffs in Twitter's New York City office, where janitors protested against this unexpected event.
With the latest batch of layoffs and blocking third-party websites from working on social media, Twitter's management is on fire because of their lack of explanations to the public. While Twitter Developers already released a statement, it is still not enough for some users, especially Brownlee who asked the question directly but did not get any answer from the company.
