It has been long-rumored that an affordable mixed reality device will be introduced and will cost around $3,000. Now, the engineers at Apple are said to be working to develop that will use cheaper components.

A More Affordable Apple Headset

It's likely that the more affordable version will have a lower resolution. Also, Apple engineers are considering using fewer cameras and slower processors that could eliminate the need for internal fans.

In addition, there's a possibility that the company will ask users to adjust their field of view manually instead of equipping the headset with a motor. Moreover, the headset might not come with a custom HW wireless chop that will work with AirPods.

Earlier reports also claimed that Apple is working on its own Bluetooth and WiFi chip that will replace Broadcom by 2025. According to The Information, the tech giant may also use an in-house chip to prevent a third-party company from affecting the price of the device.

Still, this headset is in the very early stages, as the company has yet to build a prototype. Most of the company's 1000-person Technology Development Group is currently working on two headsets, and they will probably release them in 2024 or 2025.

Apple's Mixed Reality Future

Apple's hiring of virtual reality experts and acquisition of augmented reality companies may have marked the company's transition to the world of VR and AR.

Mixed Reality Today

Mixed reality is an immersive experience that merges real and virtual worlds using a variety of devices. Though mixed reality devices are still in the early stages, they are slowly taking off.

In addition, it allows users to do all the things they would normally do in real life. For example, they may be able to go for a run in the virtual world and take on a few monsters too.

Furthermore, the technology could potentially be used in various industries such as healthcare, education, gaming, and the military. Mixed reality is also evolving at a quick pace. Recently, a Japanese company developed a new mixed-reality headset that allows users to interact with holograms by moving their fingers.

Microsoft is leading the way by bringing mixed reality to everyday devices. Microsoft has been working on their devices for many years now, first with VR and then moving on to AR, and they are already on the market with the Hololens.

It is unclear whether Apple will release a headset or a higher-end pair of glasses. One thing is clear, though. It is a great time to be in VR, and Apple will likely get a big piece of the market.
