Nintendo Switch still reigns as the best-selling gaming console in the United States, outperforming its rivals, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and the Xbox Series X/S, for five years in a row.
According to recent data, the Switch remains the best-selling gaming console in the US in 2022.
But how about the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S? Which of them got the second and third spots?
Nintendo Switch is US's Best-Selling Console Yet Again
Nintendo Life reports that the Switch is second to none in the video game console market in terms of sales, as per the latest data from NPD Group.
It is worth noting that it has been the best-selling gaming console in the US for the last five years, consecutively outperforming PlayStation and Xbox.
The hybrid gaming console has consistently outsold the PS5 and the Series X/S in the past years in the US video game console market.
It has been nearly six years since the Japanese gaming giant, which brought us iconic gaming devices like the Game Boy, introduced the Switch in 2017. This March marks the sixth anniversary of the best-selling console.
And for the last five years of its existence, it proved to be popular among gamers.
The hybrid console features exclusive gaming titles like "Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope," according to Games Radar.
Other exclusive offerings include "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "Super Smash Bros Ultimate," and "Animal Crossing New Horizons.
How Does it Compare to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S?
The Sony PS5 ranks second in the best-selling ranking of gaming consoles in the US. On the other hand, the Xbox Series X/S sits in the third spot, Nintendo Life notes in its report.
However, GameSpot highlights that the PS5 is second to none in overall dollar sales, outpacing the Switch. So it looks like Sony booked higher revenue sales than Nintendo. It is not at all surprising as the current-generation PlayStation sells for much higher pricing than the best-selling console.
The PS5 retails in the US for $499.99, while the Digital Edition of the Sony console sells for only $399.99.
In comparison, the Nintendo Switch only costs $299, which is the same price tag as the Xbox Series X. But the Xbox Series S carries a more expensive price tag to the tune of $499.
