Virgin Media to Switch to O2's SIM Plans, Offering Customers Additional Benefits

This is the first time it will affect Virgin Mobile contracts.

Virgin Media is set to overhaul its mobile services by switching to O2's SIM plans, affecting millions of customers. Although this is a significant change that affects a sizable percentage of its customer base, Virgin Media guarantees that the transition will be convenient.

The two companies' collaboration was first announced in 2020, but according to reports, this is the first time the merger has affected Virgin Mobile contracts.

Virgin Media Switches to O2's SIM

According to Express.co, customers who make the switch will be eligible for freebies such as unlimited texts and voice calls, as well as either double the data or unlimited data for the same price each month.

These perks are intended to make the transition more appealing. As a direct result of this change, not one customer will experience an increase in the price of their plans.

The transition to O2 plans will also bring benefits such as additional roaming destinations and continued inclusive EU roaming. This feature is not provided to all customers by any other major mobile network.

"This is a major milestone moment for Virgin Media O2 as our Virgin Mobile customers start moving over to O2 plans, receiving added value and benefits on top," said Gareth Turpin, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2.

He also noted that teams from Virgin Media O2 will guide customers through every step of the migration and are laser-focused on ensuring that everything happens in the most "hassle-free way possible."

More From Virgin Media O2

Virgin Media's digital transformation makes this move more attractive with additional perks. The provider will release bonus content with at-home workouts along with the migration.

Express.co reports that it includes 80 free fitness classes, including Disco DanceFit, HIIT, and Kids & Fun. Nuffield Health experts teach all classes on channel 999.

Important Note to Customers

Beginning in February, the company will notify the first Virgin Mobile customers that their current service will be transferred to a new O2 plan.

This will be in addition to access to Priority from O2 and other O2 benefits, such as additional roaming destinations and continued inclusive EU roaming, which no other major mobile network offers to all customers.

For most customers, the transition will be seamless and over-the-air, with no need to replace SIMs, port phone numbers, or change billing dates or relevant data.

According to TelecomTV, the exact details of the changes and steps will be clearly outlined to individual customers at least 30 days before the migration. Migrations will occur throughout the year, with all existing and newly joined Virgin Mobile customers being moved to O2 plans by the end of 2023.

To sum up, Virgin Media's switch to O2's SIM plans will offer customers freebies like unlimited texts and voice calls, double the data, unlimited data for the same price, and more.
