The United States President, Joe Biden, wrote an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal, asking the country to "unite against big tech abuses."
Biden is now urging Republicans and Democrats to hold these tech giants accountable for their abuses together.
Biden Wants US to 'Unite Against Big Tech Abuses'
As per a recent report by Reuters, the President of the United States is asking Republicans and Democrats to unite against giant tech firms to hold them accountable for their actions.
The POTUS wrote in his WSJ piece that he is "concerned about how some in the industry collect, share and exploit our most personal data." The US president added other issues that bother him, such as "polarization" and deepening "extremism," he believes further affect the country.
Biden notes that it not only "[tilts] our economy's playing field." It also violates "the civil rights of women and minorities, and even [puts] our children at risk."
And as such, he wants both parties to "pass strong bipartisan legislation to hold Big Tech accountable."
Biden also pointed out that social media firms should be held accountable for the "experiment they are running on our children for profit."
While Democrats and Republicans usually disagree on various issues, both of them are seemingly parallel in seeing the problems with tech giants.
Reuters notes that both parties largely acknowledge problems with tech behemoths like Google and Facebook. However, the two mainly disagree on how they want to handle these issues.
The president admits this, saying that "there will be many policy issues we disagree on in the new Congress, but...let's unite behind our shared values."
Reform on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act
Tech Crunch notes in its report that Biden proposes the reformation of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
The POTUS goes on to say that these tech firms should "take responsibility for the content they spread and the algorithms they use."
Biden now wants the Republicans and Democrats to work hand in hand in reforming Section 230 to further address issues of content and algorithms.

Tech Crunch notes that the FTC chairperson, Lina Khan, among other folks, previously complained about the lack of funding of the commission. The chair also pointed out other issues, such as headcount and authority.
Biden pointed out that the country now needs to "bring competition back to the tech sector."
