Apple Cancels 5G Chip, iPhone SE 4 that Looks Like iPhone XR—Why?

Qualcomm is the big winner in these changes from Apple.

There are massive news on Apple's future technology from a renowned analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who claimed that it already canceled its plans to develop its in-house 5G chips and the upcoming iPhone SE 4. There are several reasons which the famed speculator pointed out, claiming that the supply chain already received instructions from Apple regarding its development.

Many people were excited about the iPhone SE 4th generation, mainly because it will finally get the alleged design change that will also phase out the home button, in favor of the larger screen with a notch.

Ming-Chi Kuo shared a tweet regarding his analysis of the next-generation iPhone SE 4 and the self-made 5G from Apple, now claiming that its developments are now facing cancelation. Here, he said that the biggest winner on Apple's change of heart is Qualcomm, who will still be the exclusive 5G provider for the Cupertino giant.

The analyst further explained this via his Medium post, saying that Apple planned to let the iPhone SE 4 test the market with its self-made 5G in 2024 before it puts it on the iPhone 16, its regular lineup release.

Kuo affirmed that the supply chain partners of the company received instructions from Apple to no longer continue with its development and shipment of the iPhone SE 4.

Apple to Remain with Qualcomm

In what was supposed to be a massive change for Apple, all of that is canceled now, and as per the inside and there would be no more ventures towards Cupertino's development of its 5G chips.

The Big Tech company feels that its 5G is not on par with Qualcomm's technology, hence it stays on its deal to be its exclusive baseband manufacturer in the present.

Qualcomm is the biggest winner here, as it remains the exclusive provider for Apple's 2H24 iPhone 16 lineup.

Apple's 5G and iPhone SE 4

One of the earliest claims regarding a design change for the iPhone SE 4 was from Ross Young, a known analyst from the Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). His speculations claimed that the base variant from the iPhone 11, also reminiscent of the iPhone XR will be the new platform for the famed budget smartphone from Apple.

It is known that iPhone SE releases skip a year before it releases a new smartphone, from many claims, but that is not entirely the case for the iPhone SE 1st generation and the iPhone SE 2.

And while the iPhone SE 3 was released in 2022, leakers claim that it will be available by 2023, which initially claims to have a delay until 2024.

Now, instead of a delay for the next-generation iPhone SE 4, it is entirely canceled via the claims of the famous Apple analyst. It is unknown if Apple would pick up in the following years for their development of the SE 4, as well as its new no-Home button design.

To top it all off, Apple's 5G chips that it was supposedly making also face cancelation, and the company will no longer develop it as well, in favor of Qualcomm.
