Australian mechanical engineer Raine Kent has set a new Guinness world record for the fastest electric skateboard, reaching a top speed of 132.37 km/h (82.25 mph) on his custom-designed board.
Electrek reports that Kent's record handily beats the previous record of 95 km/h (59 mph) and is made all the more impressive by the fact that he built his own motors and precisely designed the truck angles on his board to reduce the risk of speed wobbles. This phenomenon can cause an electric skateboard to oscillate and potentially crash at higher speeds.
A Growing Industry
Electric skateboards have become increasingly popular as a commuter vehicle in cities worldwide, as they are compact, lightweight, and can readily attain speeds quicker than electric bicycles. All-terrain models with larger wheels can also tackle rough streets and off-road routes, making them appropriate for both commuter and recreational use.
As per FMI data, the global electric skateboard market is expected to reach US$ 1,931.8 million in 2022 and US$ 3,525.39 million by the end of the 2022-2032 forecast period.
In addition to setting the record, Kent also runs an electric skateboard company called Raith, which offers high-performance models for electric skateboard enthusiasts. The AWD Vengeance electric skateboard is said to reach a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph), while the Raith Midnight electric skateboard has a more modest top speed of 60 km/h (37 mph).
When asked about his record-breaking ride, Kent said, "I love the adrenaline rush that you get from e-skateboarding... The speed, the adrenaline, the rush - I love it. It was very scary but exciting at the same time and it was good to achieve something that I had been talking about for so long. Breaking the record was awesome and hopefully we hold it for a few years to come."

A Love for Skateboarding
Born and raised in Australia, Kent developed a love for skateboarding at an early age and eventually transitioned into downhill racing. However, it was his passion for electric skateboarding that led him to design and build his own high-performance boards.
Kent's custom-designed board, which he used to set the new world record, is equipped with powerful motors and specially-engineered truck angles to minimize the risk of speed wobbles.
In addition to his work as a mechanical engineer and electric skateboard designer, Kent is also an avid skateboarder and uses his custom boards for both commuting and recreational purposes.
When asked about his involvement in the electric skateboard industry, Kent said, "I began my career in skateboarding in downhill racing so negotiating hills at speed and sliding, and now I've moved into e-skateboarding."
As the owner of Raith, Kent is dedicated to producing high-quality electric skateboards that are both powerful and reliable. The company's 4WD Vengeance model, capable of reaching speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph), is designed for experienced electric skateboarders looking for a powerful and exhilarating ride.
