Apple iPhone 14 and Android users could greatly boost the battery life of their mobile devices by using a single feature on their smartphones.
If you got yourself a new Android or iPhone 14 during the holidays, you might want to make the most out of it, especially its battery.
Thankfully, offerings these days have various options in their software that specifically boost their battery life.

One way to further extend the battery life on these phones is to restrict background data on Android, as per a report by Tom's Guide. On the other hand, Apple users could opt to turn off the background app refresh.
This setting is hidden beneath the settings option of Android devices and iPhones.
Tom's Guide notes in its report that restricting background app refresh on both Android and iPhones prevents apps from refreshing while they are not in use.
It essentially cuts the connection of these apps to the Wi-Fi or mobile data while they are in the background. And as such, they could no longer constantly update while users are not using them. In turn, it saves more energy in the long run, boosting the battery life of mobile devices.
However, it is worth noting that it also means that apps would no longer provide notifications while you are not using them. Instead, you will have to open them to start getting updates once again.
But if you really need to get notifications for apps like WhatsApp or Telegram, you can opt to allow these select apps to still background refresh. With that, it still helps users to boost the batteries of their phones as most apps will still be restricted.
How to Turn Off Background Refresh on iPhone 14
According to Verizon, Apple iPhone users have the option to turn off the Background App Refresh completely. Other options would only disable it in "Wi-Fi" or "Wi-Fi and Cellular Data."
To do so, open the Settings app on your iPhone. Then, select the "General" section. From there, tap the "Background App Refresh" twice to select "Off," "Wi-Fi," or "Wi-Fi and Cellular Data" options.
How to Restrict Background Data on Android
Android users, on the other hand, have to follow these steps.
Go to the Setting app, and select the "Mobile Network" option. From there, tap the Data usage option. Then, scroll down and tap "Data saving." Toggle the apps that you would like to restrict refreshing in the background.
Not only are you boosting your battery, but you are also saving data simultaneously.
