Instagram Notes recently rolled out to its users, bringing a loosely Twitter-like feature to the Meta-owned social network.
Given that it is a pretty new feature, some folks might be unfamiliar with how it works and where to find the posts in the first place.
But sweat no more. We created a guide to the all-new Instagram Notes feature.
Instagram Notes vs. Twitter: What's the Difference
As per a report by Make Use Of, the new Notes feature of Instagram lets users post short text statuses or updates. So if you are fond of tweeting on Twitter, this might be a suitable alternative.
However, the new feature is not entirely Twitter-like. Instead, there are a few notable distinctions with how it works altogether.
The Instagram feature also has a character limit, like on tweets. But it is way shorter at only 60 characters. That said, users have to be concise or as they say - "short and sweet."
Besides that, the short texts only last for a limited time, much like how Stories work. All Notes statuses are bound to vanish into thin air after 24 hours or a day.
If you find yourself exceeding the limit, there is no option to create a thread like how Twitter folks get around the restriction.
And on top of that, Notes are purely text and emojis. So say goodbye to your photos and videos or your favorite GIF memes.
Make Use Of also notes that the posts under the Notes feature are only shown either to your mutual followers and followers or strictly to your Close Friends.
How to Post a Status on Instagram Notes
If you are struggling to look for it, the new Notes feature sits on top of your Direct Messages section. But if it is not there, according to The Verge, you will have to update your Instagram app.
Once it has been installed, you can start posting and reading new Notes updates.
To do so, tap the "Leave a note" button, which sports a plus icon, on the upper left corner of the screen.
From there, a pop-up will appear, asking you to create a Note. After you've typed your post, you can select who can view your post, one of the options is your "Close Friends."
