The Game Awards 2022: 'Elden Ring' Is GOTY, 'Bill Clinton' Stage Crasher Arrested

Who's Rabbi Bill Clinton? What's happening?

Every year, the best video game makers, publishers, and fans gather to hail the most outstanding video game of the year. In the night's most anticipated award, "Elden Ring" received Game of the Year, a well-deserved feat.

Just when everyone thought this would be the highlight of the night, an invader standing among the "Elden Ring" developers sneaked to reach the microphone and spew out the most bizarre words anyone had heard of the night.

Person Crashes Elden Ring GOTY Spotlight

As of November, global unit sales of the action role-playing game "Elden Ring" stood at 17.5 million. Two weeks after its release late in February, " Elden Ring" sold more than 12 million units worldwide, with one million copies sold exclusively in Japan.

Not only did the game sell like pancakes, but even critics were fans of this epic video game made in partnership with Dark Souls developer FromSoftware and fantasy author George R.R. Martin. Metacritic gave this instant classic a rare 96 Metascore, along with 7.7 user scores. These are impressive ratings.

Many users claim that "Elden Ring" is the best game from FromSoftware yet and might also be the best in the open-world genre. Many point out that the game's mechanics and storyline are not like any other, and its graphics are to die for. Unsurprisingly, it was a favorite pick for the game of the year.

As usual, the most prestigious award of the evening was handed out as the final act. The "Elden Ring" team and game director Hidetaka Miyazaki gave a pretty standard acceptance speech, thanking everyone and promising new things to be added to the game.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, in particular, thanked the game's supporters and also acknowledged his co-developers. He even assured the public that more of "Elden Ring" is still upcoming.

Awards Crasher Arrested

When the "Elden Ring" team was done with their message, a music cue was played to mark Geoff Keighley's sendoff remarks.

It is when a young man from the group of developers spoke some words that barely made sense: "Real quick I want to thank everybody and say that I think I want to nominate this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton. Thank you everybody."

Some in the audience were still clapping when the man uttered his words. But some were clearly baffled by the man's unexpected airtime, dressed formally to blend the award receivers.

The individual was escorted off stage alongside the From Software developers. Geoff Keighley, the show's host, tweeted minutes after the show ended, "The individual who interrupted our Game of the Year moment has been arrested."

According to PCGamer, the stunt, including the phrase spoken, was apparently planned. One Twitter user shared Discord chat records showing a server reacting to the prank before the guy stole the mic. "He's gonna shout out his rabbi when they're done," one user wrote.
