Wikipedia is not for sale, and this is as clear as its founder made it earlier today after a New York Post reporter stirred up the conversation and tagged Elon Musk in the process. This is amidst the controversy behind the Twitter Files that have been recently added to the largest free online encyclopedia, with current threats about deleting it online.
In light of Musk's alleged plans to acquire different companies, Wikipedia is not one to bring an offer to the table or is interested in selling its entirety to Chief Twit.
Wikipedia is Not for Sale, Jimmy Wales Makes it Clear
This acquisition topic was stirred by NY Post writer, Jon Levine, who asked about the price of the company, then tagged Musk in his tweet.
It is unknown if the multi-tech CEO is interested in buying the world's largest web-based encyclopedia, or were there talks regarding the acquisition, especially as Musk is known for being fond of the platform.
Twitter Files Up for Deletion on Wikipedia
The Wikipedia acquisition talks were after the recent controversy surrounding Wikipedia and the Twitter Files, an online thread from Matt Taibbi that talked about the previous Twitter management's secrets and hand in the midterm elections. Furthermore, it spilled information hidden from the public by the previous management, with Musk known for supporting this thread. According to Ian Miles Cheong via Twitter, the Wikipedia team and its editors are deciding on whether to delete the Twitter Files off its website, calling it a "nothing burger" and "not notable" for the information it brought.
Here, Chief Twit claimed that Wikipedia has a "non-trivial left-wing bias" on its platform, questioning Wales in the process.
Elon Musk, Wikipedia, and Twitter
The eccentric CEO of Tesla, Twitter, SpaceX, and more is best known for his mentions of Wikipedia on many occasions and notes that it is a place where there could be reliability and sarcasm present. Although, Musk showed his fondness for the website multiple times by citing it in Twitter replies, as well as wishing the platform a "happy birthday" on its 20th anniversary.
The Twitter owner and Wikipedia had many run-ins in the past, especially with the trolling that Musk does online, mainly targetting the open-sourced website for its public accessibility and edits.
Back in July, Musk claimed that Wikipedia is "losing its objectivity" on certain matters and topics presented on the platform, especially with the current information found on the website. The changes to disable the edit button feature on the Wikipedia result for "Recession" caught the attention of the top billionaire, hence these strong words against the company.
Now, the topic regarding Twitter Files is up for deletion on Wikipedia, and it is something that brought up issues online, especially with how the web's largest encyclopedia presents its side on the matter. Wales is not interested in selling the company to anyone, and this includes Musk, who currently owns Twitter, known for supporting the Twitter Files controversy.
