Apple Advanced Data Protection Offers End-to-End Encryption to Protect iCloud Data from Hackers!

Here's what you need to know about the new Advanced Data Protection.

This new option was designed by the tech giant manufacturer to expand its E2E encryption to more iCloud data categories.

The iPhone maker introduced the new Advanced Data Protection option on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

"At Apple, we are unwavering in our commitment to provide our users with the best data security in the world," said Apple Senior VP of Software Engineering Craig Federighi via the company's official press release.

Apple Advanced Data Protection Offers End-to-End Encryption!

According to MacRumors' latest report, Apple already offers end-to-end encryption to iCloud users. However, this security feature is provided by default.

Before the new Advanced Data Protection was introduced, there are a total of 14 iCloud data categories protected by Apple's default E2E encryption option.

Thanks to the new Apple Advanced Data Protection, these categories are increased to 26 iCloud data. Now, here are the newly added iCloud data categories:

  • Voice Memos
  • Safari Bookmarks
  • Photos
  • Reminders
  • Siri Shortcuts
  • Wallet Passes
  • Device Backups and Messages Backups
  • iCloud Drive
  • Notes

Advanced Data Protection's Details

The new Apple Advanced Data Protection can now be tested by users with the latest macOS 13.1, iPadOS 16.2, and iOS 16.2 beta versions.

The gadget developer also said that the optional security option will be launched in the United States first by the end of 2022.

After that, the tech manufacturer will expand the Advanced Data Protection to other countries starting in 2023.

Apple explained that this new security option maintains the end-to-end encryption for most shared iCloud data. These include iCloud Drive shared folders, iCloud Shared Photo Library, as well as shared Notes.

Aside from the new Advanced Data Protection option, Apple also introduced the new iMessage Contact Key Verification and the Security Keys for Apple ID features.

In other news, the Apple Self-Repair Service finally expanded in Europe.
