Google officially launches a new feature for the Recorder app on Pixel devices. The company first teased the update during the Made by Google event earlier this year.
With the arrival of "Speaker labels," users can now include voice labels and detect the speaker when recording.
Speaker Labels Come to Google Pixel Recorder App
With the help of machine learning, Google hopes to identify the various speakers and decipher the recordings coming from each of them.
Originally, Google said the feature is expected to arrive in the Pixel Recorder app in late 2022. However, it appears that it has come out earlier than expected.
According to Android Headlines, transcribing the words and phrases coming from the speakers is now made possible with the "Speaker labels" functionality." The user can also edit the identity of the speaker by tweaking its name in the recording.
It should be noted that the voice models will be encased inside the device. Once the user finishes labeling the speaker, the recorded voice models will be automatically deleted from the Pixel Recorder app.
Still, it's an optional feature that you can use if you want to specify the speakers based on their recordings. You can activate it right away after the new update comes to the app.
You can also disable this feature by heading to the Settings of the Recorder app. However, there's an alert that will notify you if the speaker labels aren't working anymore.
Once you see the phrase "if your device is too hot," you won't be able to use the feature unless you wait for it to cool down first.
Google did not mention the particular temperature threshold of the Pixel device that will be the basis if the feature is ready for use once again.

What Does the Recorder App Do With Speaker Labels
In another report by XDA Developers on Friday, Dec. 2, here are the functions that the Recorder app performs when labeling different speakers in a recording.
- Computes models of the voices detected in the recording,
- Gives each voice detected a generic text label (such as Speaker 1, Speaker, 2)
- Compares the voices throughout the recording so the transcript can reflect what each voice said and when.
In the meantime, the Speaker labels feature won't be available to anyone since it will be first accessible to Pixel Recorder v4.2 users.

Some users find success in using the Recorder app after sideloading the update on their Pixel phones. Just make sure that they are operating under Android 13 QPR1 Beta 3.1.
The update also shifts the "Autodetect" function on the Microphone settings into "Switch to an external mic or Bluetooth device automatically when connected, per 9to5Google.
