Apple is taking on a new name for the company's upcoming venture this 2023, centering on its mixed reality entry for Cupertino's latest wearable coming next year. Insiders claim that instead of the realityOS or rOS name, it is now centering on xrOS, its system that would represent the entirety of the project of its AR/VR headset arriving soon.
Additionally, instead of a January release, the device would arrive by the Spring season, lining it up with Apple's first showcase of the year for its annual March events.
Apple's Mixed Reality Venture to Get the 'xrOS'
Mark Gurman's latest report (via Bloomberg) centers on Apple's new name for its realityOS, the previous name of the company's operating system that would power its mixed reality wearable technology. Soon, the world will get to see and experience the 'xrOS,' with the name signifying the XR or mixed reality, also known as "Extended Reality."
This name came from insiders who remain anonymous, claiming they know about this venture from the Cupertino tech giant, who wants to introduce the extended reality to the world.
According to people familiar with this project from Apple, the xrOS is an indication that the company is already close to releasing the new device, waiting for the new year for its arrival.
Apple: Spring Release for AR/VR Headset
Gurman further said that the device would be arriving by Spring 2023, and Apple is best known for their early year releases by March, one which centers mostly on the iPad, iPhone SE, a new Mac, and others. Furthermore, 9to5 Mac said that Apple's AR/VR headset would only be the start, as a future smart contact lens and other devices are also coming soon.
Cupertino's Mixed Reality Headset
It was a roller coaster ride for Apple regarding its take on a mixed reality headset centering on the wearable that has been long speculated coming from the company. Many have already claimed that it is done from its R&D, and have already tested internally, but got delayed for its supposed launch in 2022 and is targetting next year for its arrival.
Initial speculations from insiders claimed that it was ready, also that it might be the same price as an iPhone for its market availability, centering on a developer-centered release.
The device's hardware remains unknown to the world, especially with what the company intends it would deliver to the public, with initial claims that it would be professional and high-end once it arrives. Leaks claimed that it would carry Apple's M2 chip for the Mac computers, alongside a massive 16GB RAM to deliver on performance and its processes.
Instead of realityOS, Apple seems to have settled with the xrOS says Gurman, and the company is already preparing for its launch by the Spring season coming next year. Soon, the world will see Apple's take on mixed reality, centering on a new focus by the Cupertino giant that will deliver a new digital experience in the AR/VR industry.
