Fortnite launches a new game mode for NFL fans through an immersive football experience.
The National Football League (NFL) announced the launch of NFL Zone, a Fortnite Creative project. Presented by Visa, the NFL's Official Payment Services Technology Partner, NFL Zone will be a social center for Fortnite players and NFL football fans alike to engage current fans through a digital platform.
NFL Fans and players can watch the trailer through Fortnite's official Youtube. The NFL Zone is set to launch sometime in December.
NFL Launches 'NFL Zone' Through Fortnite Creative
According to NFL's official press release, the NFL will strengthen its commitment to developing engaging fan experiences in the metaverse through NFL Zone.
"Fortnite has become one of the go-to destinations for audiences seeking immersive, social experiences, and we see a massive opportunity to bring NFL football to a new generation of fans with NFL Zone," According to NFL Vice president of video gaming Ed Kiang. "Through developing a robust catalog of content with top gaming personalities and pairing it with a persistent presence in the metaverse, we'll be able to grow generational fandom off the field and enhance the connection audiences have with NFL football."
Additionally, the NFL has made plans to collaborate with content producers to advertise and feature the NFL Zone, which will launch in December. Each creative will participate in the NFC vs. AFC battle in addition to posting material with the NFL Zone. Creators will compete for the AFC or the NFC, with their victories being chronicled on an in-game leaderboard. A trophy will be given to each player in the winning division during the match.
NFL Zone Mini Games in Partnership With Visa
NFL Zone is a comprehensive experience where fans can experience a virtual tailgate, a Visa-sponsored stadium, and mini-games.
Venture Beat reports that among the mini-games that fans can take part in include the Visa-sponsored mini-game, "Blitz the Bag," which features capture-the-flag gameplay.
Another game mode is "Seek and Sack," a modified version of Fortnite's "search and destroy" mode. Seek and sack will be playable on maps inspired by individual NFL teams. The San Francisco 49ers will be featured first, but maps for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and more will follow.
The NFL solely used tools accessible in Fortnite Creative to build the NFL Zone. The league implemented kid-safety elements using technology from Epic-owned SuperAwesome.
Not the First NFL Gaming Collaboration
According to The Drum, NFL is no stranger to gaming collaborations such as Fortnite or the metaverse.
Outside of Fortnite, the NFL has also teamed up with Melon and Roblox to build a metaverse experience. Most recently, the NFL announced their Roblox partnership, according to NFL's past press release.
Back in 2018, NFL partnered up with Fortnite to produce NFL-themed in-game outfits. Additionally, Fortnite created a short-term virtual experience during the 2021 Super Bowl.
