Apple's 2022 App Store Awards Recognize Apps With Significant 'Cultural Impact'

The tech giant chose 16 apps and games that it feels provided great experiences in 2022.

One of the major winners at Apple's App Store Awards 2022 is the new social networking app BeReal, which has been immensely popular in recent months.

As tech giant Apple said in its statement, the app earned iPhone App of the Year because it provides users with a "real look" into the lives of their friends and family.

According to Engadget's report, Apple singled out a total of 16 applications and games that it believes created "exceptional experiences and [made] a profound cultural impact" in the year 2022.

Social Life

BeReal has clearly had an influence in the social media app industry, as shown by the fact that competing programs have either implemented or are developing features conceptually comparable to their own.

Users of the BeReal app have the opportunity to post a selfie along with a snapshot of their surroundings within a two-minute period that the system chooses at random.

Reports said both TikTok had introduced its own takes on the format in September.

In August, a reverse engineer discovered an experimental feature inside Instagram that was almost similar to that.

Productivity

GoodNotes 5, which has been lauded for elevating digital note-taking "to the next level with best-in-class Apple Pencil support," was just voted iPad App of the Year.

The program transforms iPads into portable notepads, allowing users to highlight important sections and make footnotes.

MacFamilyTree 10, which allows users to construct visually appealing family trees and communicate with relatives anywhere in the globe, was named the best Mac app of the year.

ViX, a Spanish-language streaming service by TelevisaUnivision, was named the best Apple TV app of the year.

Additionally, the Apple Watch App of the Year went to the fitness tracking software Gentler Streak.

Entertainment

Apex Legends Mobile was voted the best iPhone game, while Moncage, a puzzle game, and Inscryption, a card battler, were voted the best iPad and Mac games, respectively.

El Hijo, a Wild West stealth game, was named the best game on Apple TV since it looked excellent on television.

The best Apple Arcade game is Wylde Flowers, a life simulator that blends farming and magic.

Then finally, the first China Game of the Year went to League of Legends Esports Manager, a simulation game based on the popular e-sport.

Cultural

Apple did not only announce the big winners; it also singled out five applications for having a significant social or cultural effect.

Dot's Home is a time-traveling narrative that shines a focus on systematic housing inequalities, and How We Feel is an app that encourages users to document their emotional well-being to vocalize it better.

When used in conjunction with each other, Locket Widget's ability to transmit live photographs to friends and family's home screens and Waterllama's upbeat approach to staying hydrated may do wonders for fostering new relationships.

Another awardee is Inua - A Story in Ice and Time, which has an adventure steeped in Inuit culture.
