Aside from being among the wealthiest people in the world, Musk owns various companies focusing on technologies, such as Tesla and SpaceX.

So it is possible Elon considered venturing into the mobile phone industry because he is tech-savvy. However, some analysts share their thoughts and are pessimistic that he will consider this industry. Here are the top reasons why Musk will not push through in venturing smartphone business.

According to Android Authority's latest report, there are various reasons why enthusiasts believe Musk's in-house smartphone won't arrive.

Among the major issues that the billionaire will face is the actual platform, OS (Operating System) + app store + smartphone ecosystem.

Amazon, Samsung, and other tech giant manufacturers have already tried to create alternative platforms that could compete against iOS and Android.

However, they didn't find any success in their smartphone platforms. Aside from this, here are other reasons why the billionaire's handset might not become a reality.

  • Elon needs to attract app developers to build applications for his new smartphone platform.
  • Musk needs to have alternative services and apps that can compete against the ones owned by Apple and Google.
  • Handling a mobile platform is different from Tesla and SpaceX since these two companies are about technical innovations.

Why Does Musk Want to Have His Own Phone?

Gizmodo reported that Elon Musk plans to make his own smartphone if ever Google and Apple remove Twitter from their app stores.

"I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone," said the billionaire via his official Twitter account.

His tweet really trended, generating more than 380,000 likes, 6,800 quote tweets, and 35,000 retweets.
