Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition of Twitter was met with criticism and praise. After being asked whether he would make his own smartphone under certain situations, the Twitter CEO said that if it came to that, he would create his own device.

Elon Musk Says He Could Build His Own Smartphone Under Certain Conditions

Liz Wheeler, the host of The Liz Wheeler Show, tweeted out to Musk asking him if he would build his own smartphone under certain conditions; Musk said that if he had no choice, he would make an alternate phone.

Musk was Told That A Lot of People Would Switch if He Built His Own Smartphone

Wheeler stated that if Google and Apple decide to boot Twitter out of their app stores, he should "produce his own smartphone." The host noted that half of the country would decide to ditch iPhone and Android, reportedly described as "biased."

She then noted that since Elon Musk builds rockets to Mars, making a "little smartphone should be easy, right?" Musk then replied to the tweet, noting that he hoped the situation would not happen.

Musk Said He Will Build His Own Smartphone if There is No Other Choice

However, he did note that if that happens, his answer is "yes" if no other choice is available. He noted that should it come to that, he would have to "make an alternative phone."

An article by Gulf News adds to the story by sharing how the once-rumored Tesla Pi Phone might come to life. The rumors of the Tesla Pi phone have long been circulating, with no official statements regarding its actual production or if it even exists.

Elon Musk Recently Partnered with T-Mobile to Provide Near Complete Coverage in the US

Elon Musk's SpaceX has recently partnered with T-Mobile to provide "coverage above and beyond." This means that Un-carrier plans to provide near complete coverage in most places across the United States.

Should the Tesla Pi Phone come to fruition, Musk has already worked with T-Mobile. This would theoretically make it easier for Musk to find a carrier to partner with should the dire conditions be met, and he would have to create his own smartphone.

Musk Criticized iOS/Android Saying the 30% Fees were a Hidden Tax on the Internet

The news stems from an article by CNBC, which noted that Musk wants to increase "free speech" on the app while increasing the amount of money the company makes through subscriptions.

The article notes that this puts the platform at risk of violating the app rules of Apple and Google, which could potentially slow down the company or get the software officially booted from app stores in general.

Musk recently criticized the fees of these app stores at 30%, saying it was a hidden tax on the internet. The Twitter CEO also noted that the high fees were because of the iOS/Android duopoly.
