Elon Musk's Twitter Will Be Launching Gold and Grey Verified Checks Next Week

Twitter will be turning gold and grey next week!

Elon Musk, the newly-minted Chief Twit, recently announced that the company would roll out verified gold and grey check marks alongside the reintroduction of the much sought-after blue check service next Friday, according to a report by Reuters.

Gold for Companies, Grey for Governments

"Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not), and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates. Painful, but necessary," the billionaire said in a tweet on Monday, Nov. 22.

"All verified individual humans will have same blue check, as boundary of what constitutes 'notable' is otherwise too subjective."

He added that users could opt for a tiny secondary logo highlighting that they belong to an organization. He said that there would be more explanation on this matter next week.

Due to the proliferation of fake accounts, the bird app decided to halt the recently announced $8 blue check subscription service. It had previously stated that the blue check subscription service would resume on Nov. 29.

It is worth noting that blue verified marks were exclusive to prominent figures such as legislators, journalists, public authorities, and other well-known people. However, Musk introduced it as an $8 subscription service for verification, which gave rise to impersonators and parody accounts bearing the blue check.

"General Amnesty"

Elon Musk also announced today that Twitter is restoring suspended users' accounts in response to a recent poll on the bird app asking for their return.

After 24 hours, the Twitter poll received a whopping 3,162,112 responses from social media users, with 72.4% supporting their return. Only 27.6% of Twitter users disagreed with the billionaire's suggestion.

According to Musk, the "people have spoken," and those whose accounts were suspended will start to reactivate starting next week with their current Twitter usernames.

It also implies that the reinstatement of these suspended users would undo the steps that Twitter made over the last years.

The richest man in the world said his plans to reinstate suspended Twitter accounts would adhere to local legal requirements and court orders respecting these individuals.

This means that individuals with unresolved cases and convictions would not see their profiles restored despite this overall amnesty approach.

Musk assumed control of the online activities after he proclaimed himself "Moderator-in-Chief" of Twitter's coverage of the US Midterm elections on Nov. 8.

He also had power over the information being posted on Twitter at the time, especially since his "free speech" was his main goal before sealing his ownership of the social media app.
