Blizzard Entertainment breaks its silence on the delayed update patch for Overwatch 2.

The first-person hero shooter game, Overwatch 2, has been the subject of numerous controversial headlines as of late for running into all sorts of issues since its free-to-play debut on the Nintendo Switch and other multiple platforms.

However, it looks like more issues have risen in Blizzard's latest development, as they have reportedly made the tough decision to delay a major mid-season cycle patch just hours before its supposed launch due to a "critical issue", according to their official statement in the Blizzards forum.

Blizzard Entertainment Breaks Silence on Overwatch 2 Patch Delay

Fortunately, Blizzard Entertainment addressed the issue in the official Overwatch 2 forum in a released statement.

"Today's patch is delayed as we work to resolve a critical issue. We'll provide an update here and set the patch live as soon as the problem is addressed." Blizzard stated regarding the delayed Overwatch 2 patch. "This includes the upcoming balance changes, bug fixes, including those that affect Mei, and core content updates we have planned for this patch."

Additionally, the "critical issue" in question which caused the delay remains a mystery to players. While Blizzard stated that they would release the patch "as soon as possible," no specific date has been disclosed, but players can watch out for updates on the Overwatch official Twitter.

What Does This Delay Mean for Overwatch 2 Players?

Overwatch 2 players may be wondering what exactly this delay might mean for the game. While it is currently unclear how long until the patch will be released, one thing for sure is that Mei will remain unavailable in the hero roster until then.

"We are temporarily disabling Mei to address a bug with her Ice Wall ability that allows heroes to reach unintended locations. We are working to address these issues as quickly as possible and aim to bring Mei back in our next upcoming patch which is set for November 15." According to Blizzard's past statement.

Polygon reports that Mei was removed from the game on Oct. 31 due to a recently detected bug with her Ice Wall ability, which enables her to wedge herself into corners and then use a teleporting character, such as Kiriko, to clip into the map geometry. Players can attack enemies from underneath by swapping to a hero like Symmetra.

What to Expect for the Upcoming Overwatch 2 Patch

Kotaku reports that the next patch will include a balance patch for certain characters, including Genji, Zarya, D.Va, Sombra, and Kiriko.

Additionally, Gamespot reports that other in-game content, including daily and weekly challenge resets, will refresh, as well as the standard shop refresh. With the release of the next patch, Mei will also be available to pick on the hero roster again.

Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play first-person shooter game that is available to download on Battle.net.
