Perhaps Elon Musk (or whoever succeeds him) will be able to bring the human race to Mars and colonize the Red Planet in the future. This makes us wonder how Martian people will deal with other daunting issues other than survival by that time.
Ready for 'Fear of a Red Planet?'
AfterShock Comics' new sci-fi series will tell the dark story of the first murder on Mars. The comic book series "Fear of a Red Planet" looks like another must-read Western series.
The series is written by Mark Sable, with illustrations and coloring by Andrea Olimpieri and lettering by Dave Sharpe.
"I'm also reuniting with two of my favorite collaborators on covers, Paul Azaceta and Jeremy Haun. This is really a dream team," said Sable in a statement.
Mark Sable is also the writer of "Miskatonic" and "Where Starships Go To Die," both excellent titles in the same genre as his new one.
"Fear of a Red Planet" is what you get when you cross a riveting sci-fi series with a nail-biting crime thriller. Early descriptions tell us that this title is filled with eerie twists that will get readers hooked on a murder investigation set on the Martian planet.
According to Space.com, the series comes with the gritty Wild West attitude of FX's "Justified" and the hardcore realistic sci-fi seen in Prime Video's "The Expanse," and will no doubt appeal to a wide range of readers.
Here is the official synopsis from the official press release:
Mars. Fifty years from now, humanity's first Martian colony is no longer self-sustaining. Under the thumb of its corporate mining overlords, the surviving colonists slave away just to pay for resupply rockets from Earth, will little or no hope of returning home.
One woman has kept a fragile peace: the U.N.'s first and only interplanetary marshal. A lawwoman escaping a violent past on Earth, she prides herself on never having fired a shot on Mars. But when she's tasked with solving the murder of the colony's most hated man, her investigation threatens to tear the red planet apart.
From the Writer
In an AfterShock Comics blog post, Mark Sable expresses his excitement for the new comic series because "Fear of a Red Planet" combines two of his favorite genres: sci-fi and western.

Though he says this will be his first time writing a series with themes such as High Noon showdowns and Mexican standoffs, instead of taking place in a desert, these suspenseful scenes will take place on Mars' vast arid landscape.
The writer also stated that the main character was heavily influenced by Timothy Olyphant's characters in "Deadwood," "Justified," and "The Mandalorian," but the central protagonist is a woman who leads a more diverse cast than most Western series have historically allowed.
Sable also says that this book contains no supernatural or extraterrestrial threats. According to the author, the series is "a far scarier extrapolation of what billionaire space programs like Mars One, Space X, and others could lead to...along with the deadly Martian environment itself."
