New iOS 16.1 flaws could allow hackers to take over your iPhone.
Cybersecurity researchers warned that these vulnerabilities could also be found on iPadOS 16.1 as well.
They are referring to the CVE-2022-40304 and CVE-2022-40303; vulnerabilities that were found in the libxml2.
Google's team of cybersecurity experts, Project Zero, even confirmed that these flaws were discovered in the software library for parsing XML documents.
iOS 16.1 Flaws Could Allow Hackers Run iPhone Commands
According to ZDNet's latest report, both of the vulnerabilities can allow hackers to terminate applications or execute arbitrary code.
If malicious actors succeed, they can run commands on the device easilty. As of writing, both of the mentioned security flaws are rated as CVE.
This means that hackers may have difficulty executing them, but once the processes are completed, they could lead to serious iOS compromises.
Apple hasn't really confirmed if iPhone users should worry about the new vulnerabilities.
But, the gadget maker has already released the new iOS 16.1.1 to fix these system flaws. The fixes are available for iPhone 8 and newer iOS smartphones.
Updating to iOS 16.1.1
If you want to install the new iOS 16.1.1, you can follow the steps provided by Macworld:
- First, visit your iPhone's Settings app.
- After that, click the General option and choose the Software Update button.
- From there, click the Download button and choose Install.
- To complete the download, just follow the provided instructions.
- Once all the steps are completed, you can now restart your device to complete the installation.
For those who already have their iPhones on auto update settings, just check your device's About section to see if your iOS is already on the 16.1.1 version.
