Tesla Advertises Job Vacancies for Cybertruck Production in Texas

Mass production will begin in 2023, reports say.

Tesla has begun hiring people exclusively for the manufacturing of Cybertrucks at its Gigafactory in Texas. This is according to the online job advertisements seen by Electrek.

The fact that a job post for the company was found shows that Tesla is poised to start manufacturing its electric pickup truck after a number of setbacks.

Job Openings

There are presently six job openings available at Tesla's Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, in connection to the production of its Cybertrucks. One of these openings is for someone to head up the manufacturing process or the manufacturing operations leader.

Based on Electrek's report, the work description stated, "We're looking for a highly motivated leader to build [world-class] teams and lead Cybertruck Operations at Gigafactory Texas. You will be responsible for meeting the production forecast and ensuring company goals are achieved. The ideal candidate will have a track record of significant achievements, tremendous drive, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves."

The next five vacancies are for the Cybertruck BIW, which stands for "Body in White." This stage is when the body of the vehicle is put together.

The positions available include:

  • Dimensional engineer
  • Senior equipment engineer
  • Dimensional engineering manager
  • Equipment engineering manager
  • Senior equipment engineering robotics

In the job description for the position of dimensional engineer, Tesla stated that he or she would work closely with the Production Teams and report their progress to the Dimensional Engineering Manager for BIW, Cybertruck.

The employee is also expected to work closely with the Sustaining Engineering department to help define and get an understanding of the specifications for body correctness, fit, gap, and craftmanship.

Other than these job positions, it was revealed last week that Tesla is continuing to hunt for a plant director to manage all production operations at the Gigafactory Texas facility.

Expectations on the Production

Because the Cybertruck's body has been developed with an exoskeleton made of stainless steel, rather than the conventional way of using a body frame with panels, this is anticipated to be a difficulty for Tesla when it comes to construction.

Electrek reported that the car tech company had placed an order for the world's largest casting machine to be able to construct the body of the electric pickup truck.

Considering that this will be a new scale for applying this technology, it is anticipated that Tesla will have some snags to work out before progressing to mass production.

Previous Production Setbacks

Last week, reports said Tesla expects to commence commercial production of the Cybertruck by the end of 2023, two years after CEO Elon Musk presented it in 2019.

Since its launch, the company has postponed manufacturing three times: late 2021, late 2022, and mid-2023.

Musk delayed the Cybertruck's deployment until 2023, citing difficulty procuring components, according to CNBC.
