In God of War: Ragnarok, Tyr is a pivotal character and is essentially the Norse mythological counterpart of Kratos.
In addition to being prominently featured in the game's promotion, this persona is also at the center of many fan-created speculations. However, his participation in the plot would remain obscure for a long time.
Spoilers ahead, so stop reading if you have not finished the main quest yet.
Is Tyr, the God of War, alive?
Tyr is restrained and imprisoned by Odin, who has gone to great lengths to stop Tyr from bringing about Ragnarok. Despite this very simple explanation, the situation is more complex than it seems.
In an article published by For The Win, it is not until the conclusion of the main storyline that a plot twist is revealed. Do you still remember the Tyr that you rescued in Svartalfheim? Apparently, that is not the real God of war.
The truth is that the Tyr you have freed in Svartalfheim is really Odin cloaked in a different form.
Because it is shown in the game that Odin may take the form of anybody as long as they are still alive, it is possible that Tyr has not really perished. That is even though the Allfather has been using him for his own nefarious reasons.
You may even locate the real Tyr in God of War: Ragnarok by completing one of the endgame tasks, which you will encounter towards the end of the main story.
This is one of the most unexpected turns of events in this game.
If you complete all of these steps, shared by For The Win, you will eventually get the opportunity to meet and speak with Tyr.
How and Where to Find Tyr?
You may enter a quick travel portal and make your way to Niflheim from Sindri's House or from any other location in the nine realms. Once you are at Niflheim, the game should instruct you to play "The Eyes of Odin" Favor there. Make "The Raven Tree" the location of your final destination.
When you get there, take the second left turn, and you will find that it now goes to a completely another area.
By doing so, you will activate the Favor known as "The Broken Prison." This will grant you entry to the actual prison where Odin has been keeping Tyr hidden throughout the entirety of the saga.
Kratos will finally get the opportunity to make his initial introduction to Tyr, who has been there waiting for him.
After you have conversed with Tyr for a while, he will reveal that to make the most of his newly acquired independence, he plans to adventure around the realms. And this is not just a metaphor since if you continue exploring, you will run across him in other realms, namely Freyr's Outpost in both Vanaheim and Alfheim.
