The "God of War" that began its revamp in 2018 was supposed to be a trilogy says game developers and the team, with a plan to expand the game to another title before its penultimate conclusion. However, Sony Santa Monica Studios went the short route and immediately followed up with "God of War: Ragnarök" which marks the end of its Norse saga.
It seems like the trip to Norse mythology was cut short, but will the new game suffice to remove another game for a planned trilogy?
'God of War: Ragnarok' Was Supposedly a Trilogy
ComicBook Gaming reported that the upcoming release of "God of War: Ragnarök" was not supposed to be the end of the series for 2018 revamp of the game. The game was supposedly a trilogy that would center on three games to shape the world's experience with Kratos and Atreus' adventure and deep dive into the Nordic gods and mythology.
According to the behind-the-scenes showcase by Sony Santa Monica Studios, its developers were planning to make three games from its revamp of the game. It began with the 2018 release of the plain-titled "God of War," and it will showcase Kratos and his son's travels in a newfound world.
However, after weighing its pros and cons, the team ultimately decided to focus on two games that will show Norse mythology for all.
The Norse Saga is Ending with 'Ragnarök'
The Norse saga is ending with its version of the apocalypse, centering on the fall of Asgard, its destruction, and the death of all gods and deities.
With that, Sony Santa Monica's last release for this storyline will end with "God of War: Ragnarök," with Kratos and Atreus nearing their story's release by November 9.
Sony Santa Monica and 'God of War'
Many fans were excited for the next title following the revamp to the famed action-adventure series of "God of War" from Sony Santa Monica. Its 2018 release gave the world the rework it was expecting since the first trilogy of the game which was released in the early and mid-2000s for the world to experience via the PlayStation.
The 2018 release was a fast-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive, and gamers were met with Norse mythology instead of the initial Greek gods it showcased.
"God of War" 2018 put the world on a roller coaster of emotions and enjoyment with the game, paired with Kratos' son, famously known as "Boy," which became a massive meme in the gaming industry.
Atreus will be a key player in "God of War: Ragnarök," and despite having a Greek name bested on his son, Kratos and boy play a massive role in Norse mythology's existence in the newfound land.
Sony Santa Monica's latest release is coming by next month, and it will only be a few weeks' wait before gamers get to experience the new title that is centering on the continuation of its story. It picks up from 2018's installment of the title, with this game centering on the Allfather, Odin, and his famous son, the god of Thunder, Thor, finally ending its Norse saga with only two titles.
