Oculus Co-Founder Makes a VR Headset with Explosive Charges That CAN Take Your Life When Losing a Game

No more second chances or re-do's with this gaming VR.

The former Oculus co-founder, Palmer Luckey, has created the ultimate device that will bring you to treat the game like it is a matter of life and death, because it literally and figuratively is, with the latest NerveGear VR headset. It may look like a modified Meta Oculus Pro headset, but this one equips explosive charges on the device that takes "Game Over," literally.

It is said that this device takes inspiration from the famous Japanese anime, "Sword Art Online," where the fictional gamers' consciousness get trapped inside the unit after their brain are hit with microwaves.

Palmer Luckey is an otaku, a Japanese term for being a massive fan of computers or online games, and after his stint with Oculus as co-founder, his latest innovation is a VR device with explosive charges that take gaming to the next level.

According to Luckey's blog post, "If you die in the game, you die in real life," and this device is not a form of a joke, as it takes the game seriously with no room for error when losing in the experience.

There are many inspirations and previous media regarding this, but Luckey said that it centers on the famous Japanese anime series, "Sword Art Online," which shares the same principles on the deadly VR device.

Ars Technica regarded that Luckey's new VR headset resembles the latest Meta Oculus Pro device, but this time, it has explosives fitted on it that would trigger when one fails to survive in the game.

Taking the Real 'Game Over' and Lose One's Life

For gamers, seeing "Game Over" is not a big deal, as they can go back to a saved checkpoint and get another chance at doing tasks or facing bosses in the game. However, for Luckey's new VR device, losing is not an option and may result in meeting their maker, and losing one's life in the process.

Nevertheless, Luckey's latest VR headset is not one for those who would not take games seriously, as if one's life depends on them.

VR Headset and its Development

There are massive developments in the virtual reality and wearable tech industry for many years now, and it delivers a real-life experience for all to integrate reality into what they see via the headset. Multiple companies including Mark Zuckerberg's Meta are now adding significant improvements to VR including the haptic touch gloves, among other features.

Since science fiction representations of combining virtual, augmented, and real-life experiences in one device became famous, companies intended to add more senses to arrive at the XR experience. At one point, Swedish developers and scientists took it to another level by adding a sense of smell to the headset.

However, Palmer Luckey's new headset aims to take it up a notch, up to the extreme levels for the thrill seekers, and bring the "life and death" situation right at people's heads. In this new VR headset, there is no room for failure or re-do's, as one's life is at stake in completing a game, making people focus more on the objective and take the game seriously.
