AMD Confirms It Will Compete with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080: Is the Radeon RX 7900 XTX a Worthy Contender?

AMD has confirmed that its new GPU will be in direct competition with one of the latest GPUs in the market from its competitor. The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 competitor is the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX Clarified to Compete Against the GeForce RTX 4080 and Not the RTX 4090

According to the story by Tweak Town, the company has confirmed that the new Radeon RX 7900 XTX will be in direct competition with the GeForce RTX 4080. It has also confirmed that its direct competition was not with the GeForce RTX 4090, which costs 60% more.

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 series GPUs are official, with two dropping on December 13. The upcoming GPUs dropping are the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and the Radeon RX 7900 XT.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 was Said to Demolish the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti

The article by Tweak Town notes that on top of its launch date and models, they have been hearing comparisons on how the Radeon RX 7900 XTX performs against its competitor. On the other hand, NVIDIA released the GeForce RTX 4090, which reportedly demolished both the GeForce RTX 3090 and the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.

Fans were expecting the new Navi 31-powered Radeon RX 7900 XTX would be able to compete with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. Sadly, this wasn't the case, and AMD's GPU will be competing against the 4080 instead.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU Packs 24 GB of GDDR6 Memory, Competing with the RTX 4080

AMD has confirmed that the new Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs will be based on the Navi 31 GPU. The new GPU will pack 24GB of GDDR6 memory and competes directly with the GeForce RTX 4080.

Frank Azor, the Ex-Alienware CEO and AMD's Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions & Marketing, confirmed the competition during a Las Vegas event that revealed the RDNA3, as seen in an article by Notebook Check. Frank says the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX is designed to compete with the GeForce RTX 4080.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX to Cost $999 While NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Costs Just $1,599

However, they still do not have the benchmark numbers for the GeForce RTX 4080. Frank says that this is why there have been no charts of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPUs, so they cannot be compared against the new AMD Radeon RX 7900 series GPU.

Frank explained that the new Radeon RX 7900 XTX will only cost buyers $999, which is why it is not a competitor against the GeForce RTX 4090. The latter costs a whopping $1,599 or more.

Difference Between the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 and the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 has just 16 GB of GDDR6X memory and starts at $1,199. Quite surprisingly, the $899 AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT will be packing more memory at 20 GB GDDR6.

This places the Radeon RX 7900 XT in the same VRAM number as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, which costs $999. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX packs more memory at 24 GB GDDR6, as explained in detail on WCCFTech.
