The new Apple Watch ovulation tracking tech now concerns experts as consumers tend to misuse the health feature.
For the past years, Apple has been integrating numerous health-related enhancements into its iPhones, Apple Watch, and other products.
But, since these features are designed to help users check their health, the iPhone maker ensures that it offers correct descriptions.
However, despite Apple's statements, it seems like some Apple Watch owners still use the new ovulation tracker incorrectly.
Apple Watch Ovulation Tracking Tech Concern Experts
According to The Wired's latest report, the new ovulation tracking feature is available on the latest Apple Watch Series 8, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra.
If you will visit the official Apple Support website, the tech manufacturer has already warned users not to use the function as a form of birth control.
"Cycle Tracking should not be used as a form of birth control. Data from Cycle Tracking should not be used to diagnose a health condition," said Apple.
But, some are not following Apple's instructions. Because of this, experts shared their concerns regarding the possible consequences of misusing the feature.
Kate White, a family planning researcher at the Boston University School of Medicine, said it is good to have more information about one's body.
But, she added that having these details without context could be dangerous. White, a practicing gynecologist, further explained that Apple would not explain how the ovulation tracking data could be used.
This is because the gadget maker doesn't want people to use the information for fertility actively. Since there's an info-gap, many Apple Watch owners would rely on Facebook groups and TikTok videos for suggestions.
How Ovulation Tracking Feature Works
Apple explained that the new ovulation tracker relies on wrist temperature data.
Thanks to this, it can detect the biphasic shift, allowing it to estimate the day ovulation will likely happen.
But, the tech firm said that the information provided is just estimations. This means that the details provided may sometimes be inaccurate.
This is why it is important to avoid using Apple Watch Series 8's latest ovulation tracker as a form of birth control.
Aside from the new ovulation tracking tech, other health features were also released by Apple.
These include the latest Apple Fitness+, which is available on the new iOS 16.1.
Users could also see the most-awaited Apple Watch blood pressure monitor around 2024.
