One of the new Apple Watch 8 series is displayed during a launch event for new products at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, on September 7, 2022.
So it turns out that aside from the handy features that the smartwatch offers, it mainly helps its users to take a closer look at their health. This time, the heart rate monitoring feature has helped a child overcome cancer by getting treatment early.
Apple's Watch Heart Rate Monitoring Helps Kid Discover Cancer
As per the latest news story by Apple Insider, a 12-year-old girl, Imami Mile, was wearing her Apple Watch when it suddenly blurted out high heart rate notifications.
The mother of the smartwatch user, Jessica Kitchen, discloses that it was the first time that the notification appeared. But despite that, the high heart rate alert persistently kept showing up.
According to a recent report by 9to5 Mac, Kitchen says that it was "really weird because it's never happened before. It just kept going off. And as such, she decided to take her daughter to the hospital.
And from there, they discovered that Mile has a disease in her appendicitis. The doctor found a neuroendocrine tumor upon diagnosis of her appendix. The doctor further states that such cancer rarely hits young folks.
The 12-year-old girl went on to undergo surgery to have her rare cancer removed. And it turns out to be successful.
All that said, the mother says that it could have taken more time before her daughter was diagnosed with cancer if not for the Apple Watch. Kitchen furthered in an Hour Detroit report that "if she didn't have that watch, it could have been so much worse."
How to Turn on Apple Watch Heart Rate Notification
The Apple Watch comes with tons of health features these days. It includes sleep tracking and heartbeat monitoring.
Besides these handy features, it also comes with other life-saving functions, such as its detection capabilities during falls and car crashes.
The support page of Apple says that its smartwatch allows its users to measure their heart rate through its built-in app. The tech giant also disclosed how to use it to get the most accurate reading possible.
To do so, the iPhone maker says that users need to open the Apple Watch app on their smartphone. Then, select the My Watch tab to go to the "Heart" section. From there, tap the High Heart Rate option, and choose BPM. Go to Low Heart Rate as well, and tap BPM.
