In most flagship offerings nowadays, these mobile devices feature a multiple-camera setup. We are not only talking about a single rear camera and a selfie snapper.

But it looks like Xiaomi is taking it to the next level.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept

As per the latest report by Android Authority, most flagship phones now allow users to take photos and videos using their smartphones' ultrawide, telephoto, and primary cameras.

And besides the various rear cameras, phones have already offered top-notch snappers.

For instance, one of the most expensive phones, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, already sports a shooter achieving up to 108 megapixels (MP).

The Chinese phone maker Xiaomi also offers a smartphone with an impressive camera system. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra provides a sharp-shooting 50 MP Sony IMX989 primary sensor.

But this time, a new concept of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra offers a new level of smartphone photography. Apart from its built-in shooters, the prototype interestingly allows the attachment of a full-blown Leica camera lens.

Android Authority reports that the Xiaomi concept is made possible in partnership with the renowned camera maker Leica. The prototype allows users to slap a full-blown camera lens to improve their photography prowess.

Leica Camera Lens Support on a Smartphone

According to a recent story by XDA Developers, the modified flagship phone rocks a ring around its rear camera system. And as such, it allows the mobile device to attach a Leica M-series lens seamlessly.

While slapping a full-blown camera lens on a smartphone would likely scratch the built-in lens of your device, this Xiaomi concept addressed that issue.

The prototype flaunts sleek sapphire glass, which prevents scratches on the mobile device's built-in cameras when attaching a full-blown lens.

XDA Developers revealed in its news story that the compatible Leica lens on the concept phone offers an aperture between f/1.4 and f/16.

And on top of the hardware upgrade, the Chinese phone maker added some new software features to complement it. It reportedly has photography functions like histogram, focus peaking, and zebra lines.

However, it is worth mentioning that Xiaomi says that the 12S Ultra concept would remain a prototype. But it remains to be seen if the giant phone maker plans to release a similar feature to its future devices.
