A widespread outage on Instagram that rocked users on Monday morning has already been fixed, according to the social media app's announcement on Twitter.
Widespread Account Suspensions
The Meta-owned app locked users out during the downtime and informed many of them that their accounts were suspended on October 31, 2022.
A majority of the reported issues appeared to come from iPhone users, with some claiming that their app recently crashed and became unusable before an update earlier this morning.
"We've resolved this bug now - it was causing people in different parts of the world to have issues accessing their accounts and caused a temporary change for some in number of followers," Instagram said in a statement.
The platform acknowledged the problem on Twitter for the first time at 10:14 AM ET but didn't announce that it was already fixed until many hours later, at 6 PM ET. Instagram's CEO, Adam Mosseri, also expressed his apologies for the widespread outage.
Around the time Instagram acknowledged the problem, reports on Downdetector reached over 7,000. But the numbers have decreased since Instagram started taking action.
Around 10:15 AM ET, The Verge reported that a quick glance at Cristiano Ronaldo's Instagram account revealed that he has lost 3 million followers even though he had 493 million of them the day before.
Instagram's own account also lost followers by over a million during the downtime.

Instagram Down
Last month, several iPhone users experienced another crash in the Instagram app. The bug occurred when the v225.0 update was deployed on the app, although some users who were still using iOS15 reported no problems with running the app.
But just like the most recent outage, Instagram did not go into further details about what caused the problem.
The platform's server also went down in May of this year and users reported that were unable to fully access each content on their feed.
The "Welcome to Instagram" message appeared for some users, but no images, stories, or reels were loading during that time.
The issue, which lasted for many hours, was described as an "intermittent outage," according to the report from Instagram via Down Detector.
